VOTE: Who Do You Think Is the Scariest Chopped Judge?

by in Community, June 15, 2013

Someone will get chopped on this Sunday's appropriately themed episode of Star (watch an extended preview here). Like most Star and Chopped endings, it won't be pretty. And it wouldn't be a real Chopped experience without a Chopped judge present — Alex Guarnaschelli, especially. Alex has judging down to a T, not to mention she understands the stress of these competitions, having recently won The Next Iron Chef.

Standing in front of the judges’ table on Chopped is scary for any contestant, especially when he or she is waiting to hear the criticism from the judges. Both Alton and Bobby have admitted they believe Alex is the scariest Chopped judge to face. But what do you think? Vote in Star Talk's poll below.

FN Dish caught up with Food Network stars, including Alton Brown, Bobby Flay, Michael Symon, Anne Burrell and the Neelys, as well as the judges themselves, among other famous faces, to ask the question, “Which Chopped judge are you most scared of?” Watch the video below to hear which judge came out on top as the scariest.

I think Alex is the scariest but I think if someone is a favorite of hers she is also not
    the fairest.

  3. jen says:

Alex is the scariest because if you are not a favorite, she can be the unfairest....

    • Michelle says:

You sound like you think Alex will favor someone tonight. Why not just have your own evidence for who you like regardless of what any judge says?

  4. guest2 says:

You could say that about anyone else. If any chopped judge says this doesn't work for me that is what they think. Just because they might hate asparagus doesn't mean you or I can't like it.

  5. Lamont says:

That Freitag chic dont dig nobody.

  6. Howard says:

I'm sure the judges know food but how many of us will just go along with whatever they say because they have a Title? Same with Justin's recap. Would you ever have the B_____ to say you like someone anyway if the judges didn't like them? Would you disagree with the judges if they did like someone? It works both ways. Question Authority.

  7. Gordon says:

Samuelson is scariest. He gripes about things that shouldn't even matter.

  8. Robert Curtis says:

I don't like the way the Samuelson picks apart the dishes becausrre they don't like certain foods or it is to spicy .

    • Terry says:

Agree. There's also that white haired man on Iron Chef who is a whiner. He goes on about how things aren't in small enough chunks and it hurts his teeth. So go see a dentist, you twit. Stop with the persnickety nit-picking and make it something worth complaining about that we all would agree with.

  9. Marcie says:

Conant is abrupt and cuts people off.

    • beachinfrizzy says:

One thing that annoys me about Conant is he's repeatedly told contestants "I want EVERYTHING on my plate to be edible" (one contestant didn't remove the core of her grilled treviso (red endive) so it would make a neater presentation, others have garnished with a whole thyme or rosemary sprig)...oh yeah? What, does he have his mommy cut the meat off a porterhouse for him? Does he refuse to eat baby back ribs, or cioppino, or paella, or coq au vin or corn on the cob? Buffalo wings? It's just a ridiculous, disingenuous thing for him to say.

      • etta says:

Just spank him with a Porterhouse.

      • klink6224 says:

He's not alone in that at least. I know that Zackarian, Murphy, Santos and Samuelson have said it too. And it's not like you can't have nothing that's not edible. They will be upset if you don't present mussels in their shells and things of that nature. But they don't want lemon rinds.p or unground peppercorns or capers on there. Or a flower to make it look "sexy" when it's not a food. I get that it can seem nitpicking but there is a universal truth to the point. And they are competing with presentation as a key element where that could be the minor error in a relatively flawless dish that separates competitors.

Alex is tough but she has it together.
