Star-a-Day: Stacey Poon-Kinney

by in Food Network Star, May 29, 2013

Stacey Poon-KinneyYou heard it here first: Food Network Star is kicking off an all-new ninth season on Sunday, June 2 at 9pm/8c, and returning judge-mentors Alton BrownBobby Flay and Giada De Laurentiis will be there at the helm. This year the mentors are tasking 12 hopefuls with weekly Mentor and Star Challenges in the ultimate multi-month interview for the chance to earn their dream television job: their own show on Food Network. While the contestants bring with them a mix of backgrounds — including culinary school, restaurant management, private chef and food blogging — they have but one dream, which is to become the next Food Network Star. From now until next month's premiere, Star Talk will introduce one finalist a day until you, Star fans, meet them on camera during the show.

Having grown up cooking in a food-focused family, Stacey Poon-Kinney, 34, became familiar with the restaurant scene at a young age, thanks to her great-grandfather and great-grandmother, who worked as a chef and a diner owner, respectively. She eventually pursued her passion for dance and performance, but she later teamed up with her father to open The Trails restaurant, which was featured on Restaurant: Impossible. This mother of two now lives in San Diego and runs The Trails.

Stacey is amazing ! She's funny, bright and just has a sparkle about her ! The food she and her crew create at The Trails is awesome ! She's always coming up with new and delicious menu choices. The only bad thing if she wins this competition is that we may not see her as much ! : )

You seem to be a natural in front of the camera, which is good. The only piece of advice that I can offer, having seen e very season of F,N.S., is don't be so happy , bubbly all the time, or the judges could start to question your authenticity. I say this, but I am also wondering what the time frame for filming to air is. I don't know if y'all have already filmed the whole series and already know who the next star is. The good thing is you are going to be a success regardless!

It is important to be genuine. At times I feel like almost any reaction can be made to be the wrong one. If you're normally cheerful then you have a bad day are you being real or will you be slammed with being negative? If someone is shy in the beginning and then becomes more open will it be seen as honest growth or will they be accused of acting? If someone is asked about how good their food is and they say: I'll let you decide, is that modesty or a lack of confidence? If they do say: yer gonna luv this dish, will it be seen as confidence or arrogance?

12 people this time. Which 3 will go home first? Which 3 will last to the end?
How will we feel about the way the judges, judge? Will the chefs fight amongst themselves? The suspense is building.

Stacey, you have personality, and that is what keeps viewers watching, to me, you are most always that way, upbeat and a bit hyper, so that is a good thing, you were natural on this video, so people who DO know you , will say HEY THAT'S STACEY FOR YA...she did GREAT. !! So to me, no questions asked about IF that is fake or not really you, NOPE that WAS YOU< that IS STACEY !! I hope you win Good Luck to you.

Is Stacey the one from Restaurant Impossible that owed her father his retirement money and could not do dinner service because she needed to be with her family? What happened to that?
