Linkie Marais

To give you a sneak peek at the personalities of Team Alton, Team Bobby and Team Giada, we’re introducing a finalist per day leading up to the bigger-than-ever Food Network Star premiere on Sunday, May 13, at 9pm/8c. Don’t miss the casting special on Saturday, May 12, at 9pm/8c for a behind-the-scenes glimpse at each finalist’s road to Star-dom, including footage of their final one-on-one auditions with their respective team leaders.

Twenty-eight-year-old Linkie Marais is Team Giada's resident baking queen. Linkie grew up in South Africa and moved with her family to Mississippi at age 16. This trained pastry chef and wedding cake expert now lives in Massachusetts.

Fun facts about Linkie from Food Network Magazine:

  • Claim to fame: She has decorated cakes for celebrity clients like Patrick Kennedy and Frankie Valli. The most challenging cake she ever made looked like a life-sized golf bag.
  • Dream-show concept: Do-it-yourself cake decorating. "People have a hard time affording elaborate cakes," she says. She'd demonstrate all the essentials: how to ice, create borders and work with fondant.
  • Secret ingredient: Butter. "I think I love butter more than Paula Deen does."

I can't wait for this week's show! For someone with a sweet tooth, I am all about Linkie's deserts and I would love to watch a show that would teach me how to do stuff with sugar! I love that Linkie's personality is so cheery too. I really don't want to watch a drap replica of AB! Keep it up Linkie! My family and I want to see more of you!

As a mom of a lot of kids on a limited budget, I'm often making cakes for holidays and birthdays. I'd love a show that taught me how to make my family's special event desserts look just that --- special. Linkie seems to have the skill and the personality to do what is needed for a cooking show, skills and personality.

Linkie, you're starting to grow on me more and more. I too, would like to see a show with making beautiful cakes, desserts and whatever you've got. I know we've had the cake challenge shows and also cup-cake shows, but I think you would delve into the study of creating these types of treats further. I decorate cakes for family, but I'm always wanting to learn more and more. I think you could deliver if you would relax and teach us what you've got. You are engaging to watch with you're warmth and the way.
