We straightened out some misconceptions about foods that don’t go in the fridge. Now here are 7 foods that will benefit from the chill of the icebox.
Ketchup
Restaurants go through a bottle in no time, but most home kitchens don’t. Keep ketchup fresh in the refrigerator for up to 3 months.
Butter
All those oils can and will turn rancid at room temperature (ick!). Store all your buttery goodness in the fridge or the freezer. Defrost frozen sticks in the refrigerator overnight.
Juice
Whether you buy it warm or cold, once you crack open the sealed cap, juice needs to stay cool. Are open bottles of juice hogging space in your fridge? Make homemade ice pops.
Natural Peanut Butter
No preservatives here! Keep natural peanut butter fresh and prevent separating by storing in the chill of the fridge.
Maple Syrup
Prevent the growth of mold or yeast (which loves sugar) by storing syrup in the refrigerator for up to 3 months.
Salad Dressing
Dressings, especially ones made with dairy, fruit or citrus need to be preserved after opening. Even if you make your own, keep it chilled.
Sesame Oil
The bitter flavor of rotten sesame oil will ruin any recipe. Get more mileage out of that bottle when it’s kept below 40-degrees F.
