You could win a copy of this cookbook.

Brown Bag ChallengeWe’re teaming up with fellow food bloggers to host a Brown-Bag Challenge, a month-long initiative to eat consciously and save money by packing a lunch each weekday instead of eating out. Join us here and share what you’re eating on Facebook and Twitter with the hashtag #brownbag.

Our friends and fellow brown-bag lunch champions at Big Girls, Small Kitchen have a new cookbook, In The Small Kitchen: 100 Recipes From Our Year of Cooking in the Real World. The book is, according to Phoebe and Cara at BGSK, “a quirky cross between a food memoir and a beautiful cookbook with delicious recipes and colorful pictures.” Within the book’s 300 pages, the BGSK girls take you on their own journey into independence and learning to cook and entertain in a grown-up, post-college world — all from a small kitchen, and on a modest budget. It’s true that not every recipe fits into our healthy recipe criteria, but here at Healthy Eats we’ve always stressed the importance of cooking from scratch — it’s almost always healthier than eating out, and always healthier than choosing a processed product. So for those just getting started in the kitchen, and those with more experience, this is the perfect book to inspire plenty of homemade dinners, party appetizers, special-occasion desserts and brown-bag lunches for the whole family.

You can order your own copy of In a Small Kitchen, or you can enter to win a copy here. Just tell us in the comments how you fared in our September Brown-Bag Challenge. Did you complete the full month? What was the best lunch you packed this month?

The contest starts at 10 a.m. EST today, and ends on Monday, October 3 at 10 a.m. EST.

You may only comment once to be considered and you don’t have to purchase anything to win; a purchase will not increase your chances of winning. Odds depend on total number of entries. Void where prohibited. Only open to legal residents of 50 U.S. states, D.C. or Puerto Rico, and you must be at least 18 to win. For the first day of the giveaway, all entries (answers) must be entered between 10 a.m. EST on September 23 and 10 a.m. EST on September 26. Subject to full official rules. By leaving a comment on the blog, you acknowledge your acceptance to the Official Rules. ARV of each prize: $14.95. Sponsor: Scripps Networks, LLC, d/b/a Food Network, 9721 Sherrill Blvd, Knoxville, TN 37932.

So tell us all about your brown-bag experience.

Yes, I did very well in September! My favorite go-to lunch right now is a Greek chicken salad. So good and satisfies my salty craving in a healthy way. Would love love love to win the cookbook!

it went well! I have been packing my lunches every day for over a year (minus probably one day a month) in order to save money. My favorite lunches are usually the ones that are leftover from our homecooked dinner the night before. would love this cookbook!

I pack my lunch everyday!! Its healthy for me and my wallet!! Sandwhichs are my favorite because you can be so creative with them. Yummy.

i do everyday anyway…veggie wraps are my favorite…fast, easy, and healthy…whenever i roast veggies for dinner, i do extra for lunch wraps, pitas, etc

I am at home; so, I do this most every day. I do very well eating. My husband tends to grab either a sandwich and veggies or soup and apples for work. This sounds like a wonderful book!

I make my own "special sauce", combining a good dijon mustard with fat-free mayonnaise – keep it in a small container in the fridge…adds some zing to any brown-bag lunch! My fave? Whole grain sandwich rounds with a bit of the special sauce spread on each side, a few deli-thin slices of low-fat brown sugar ham and smoked turkey, and a nice chunk of romaine lettuce! Hmmm – think I'm hungry right now!
(By the way, I may qualify as one of the smallest kitchens, as we live and travel full-time in our motorhome. I cook big, healthy meals in a very small kitchen almost every day of the year – and I love it!)

I bring my lunch to work everyday. I cook better than my company's cafeteria easily! Last week I brought wine braised red potatoes, seared sliced ribeye with a wine pan sauce, over lettuce from my CSA. Delicious and so fast and simple to make and pack up!

It went well and everyone’s happy. My favorite was today’s brown-bag. It’s the fancy garlic rice with hotdogs and vegies in it. My son said it’s the yummiest :)

I LOVE BGSK I follow their blog religiously! I did ok in the #brownbag challenge – I totally need to save money and eat better – so I am going to continue working on it in October. My strategy was to make extra portions of dinner the night before and then bring them for lunch the next day – rather than pack a special lunch each day… it was much more do-able that way! Thanks!

i DID complete the full month! my favorite lunch is yellow curry chicken with peas and roasted cauliflower over brown rice. it never felt like a leftover or brown bag lunch but rather a fresh, tasty lunch to look forward to! i'm continuing with the challenge for an additional 60 days due to a restricted diet/food sensitivity/detox thing. i would love to win a copy of the BGSK cook book!
