The trick to delicious turkey burgers is keeping them tender and juicy. Since the meat doesn’t contain much fat (and therefore, not much flavor) you need to combine it with a few simple add-ins to give things a boost.  We dreamed up 5 flavorful mix-ins for the turkey burgers, each with 5 ingredients or less!

Mix-and-Match Turkey Burgers

Start with 1-pound of ground turkey breast (make sure it’s breast meat and not the higher-fat "ground turkey") along with some salt and pepper. Try any of the 5 options below and serve on a whole-grain English muffin.

Yield: 4 burgers per pound of turkey meat

Option 1 (pictured above): Sun-dried tomato and black olives (1/4 cup of each, finely chopped)

Toppings: Goat cheese (1/2 oz per serving) and fresh arugula

Calories per serving: 324; Fat: 8 grams
Mango Chutney Turkey Burgers
Option 2: Mango chutney (1/2 cup)

Toppings: Baby Spinach & mayonnaise (1 teaspoon per serving)

Calories per serving: 340; Fat: 7 grams
Turkey Burgers With Balsamic Onions
Option 3: Balsamic onions*

(*1/2 cup chopped red onions sautéed with 2 teaspoons of olive oil and 2 tablespoons of balsamic vinegar – cool before adding to meat)

Toppings: Provolone cheese (1 slice per serving) and sliced tomato

Calories per serving: 370; Fat: 10 grams
Turkey Burgers With BBQ Sauce and Bell Peppers

Option 4: BBQ sauce and chopped bell pepper (1/2 cup each)

Toppings: Cheddar cheese (1 slice per serving) and mixed greens

Calories per serving: 362; Fat: 12 grams
Turkey Burgers With Black Beans and Cilantro

Option 5: Black bean & chopped cilantro (½ cup each)

Toppings: Sliced avocado
Calories per serving: 270; Fat: 3.5 grams

Directions:

Preheat grill or grill pan to medium-high. Combine turkey meat and desired ingredients; season with salt and pepper and mix gently to combine. Form into 4 equal sized burgers and grill for 5 to 6 minutes per side. Serve on toasted whole-grain English muffins with desired toppings.
