Thanksgiving is over, and that means the holiday season is in full swing. Hectic schedules, holiday baking and a few too many treats leave many people a few pounds heavier come January 1, but it doesn't have to be that way! Here are 5 simple ways to cut 100 calories during the holidays.

Skip licking the spoon: When it comes to cookie and cake batters, a spoonful can easily add up to over 100 calories. Save those calories and enjoy the fruits of your labor instead.

Cut fats in half: You don’t have to skip the stuffing, mashed potatoes or your favorite holiday cake, but with every tablespoon of butter you omit from the recipe, you also cut 100 total calories. Your guests won’t even know it's missing.

Topper trade-off: Can’t enjoy pie if its not a la mode? Switch 1/2 cup of premium chocolate ice cream for 1/2 cup chocolate sorbet and shave 100+ calories from your dessert. Sorbet won’t cut it? Opt for 1/4 cup of ice cream instead to cut 100 calories.

Appetizer awareness: Swap out 1/4 cup of a sour cream- or mayonnaise-based veggie dip for one made with non-fat yogurt and save 100 calories. Also, snack on veggies like roasted peppers and artichokes instead of high-fat cheeses like brie. Just 2 ounces of brie packs on 200 calories versus a 1/4 cup serving of lightly-oiled roasted vegetables, which weighs in at around 50 calories.

Be mindful of calories in beverages: Swap one glass of wine for a sparkling water flavored with fresh cucumber slices or another non-calorie beverage like iced tea to save 100 calories.
