This time of year, it’s hard to escape piles of candy and other sugar-filled treats.  But don't toss it -- here are 5 ways to use it later to sideline a post-Halloween sugar overload.

Cold Storage

Out of sight, out of mouth! Tuck some of that candy away in the freezer. Chocolate freezes well and it’s fun to eat small bites straight from the deep freeze. Store in a freezer-safe bag for up to 6 months.

Spread the Love

Check with local hospitals, homeless shelters, and food pantries – many take candy donations. Other organizations also take in goodies for care packages to send to our troops overseas.

Oh Goody!

Designate a stash to bulk up goody bags at the next neighborhood birthday party.

Plan Ahead

Set aside some candy for your holiday baking – chocolate coated candies like M&Ms, peanut butter cups, and cinnamon-flavored Red Hots make festive cookie decor.

Re-Purpose

Melt down extra chocolate for dipping --- we suggest whole grain pretzels, nuts or some fresh or dried fruit.
