Though Spike Mendelsohn calls Washington, D.C., home, chances are good that fans from coast to coast know him and his many restaurants. He and his family run multiple restaurant concepts, including Good Stuff Eatery, which specializes in juicy, satisfying, craveworthy burgers. But as Spike explained when we caught up with him on the set of Kitchen Sink, his culinary chops go well beyond the burger. “I’m a little bit all over the place,” he said, noting his experience with pizza, fine-dining and international cuisines alike. What can fans expect to see from you on Kitchen Sink? What will you be bringing to the party?
Spike Mendelsohn: I’m going to bring a lot of experience to the party. I’ve been cooking in the business for years, since I was a little kid, so I’ve done pretty much anything in the business. If they need me to washes on the Kitchen Sink, which it sounds like they might need me, I’ll be the perfect candidate for that. I’m just going to bring my fun and my experiences, and a lot of my experiences are travels and different cultures and cuisines and fun.

Next Iron Chef judge Simon Majumdar joins us on the FN Dish each week to share his insider’s take on what went down Sunday night.
Any concerns that the 10 chefs competing on this season of The Next Iron Chef might not feel the pressure, given their remarkable culinary achievements and already stellar careers, were dispelled the moment they came face to face with the three judges on the edge of the lakeside.
The beads of sweat running down their brows were not only caused by the blazing sun under which they had been forced to cook, but also from the stern warnings given by the judges. We made it very clear that taste would count for everything during this competition, and their reputations not at all.
Chef Spike had drawn the “lucky” straw and, while he might have thought it amusing to pair Chef Irvine with Chef Burrell and wise to pair himself with Chef Samuelsson, there was a very distinct possibility that it could all come back to take a large chunk out of his youthful posterior.
First it was Eva Longoria, now Marcela kicks up her Saturday morning show, Mexican Made Easy, with Spike Mendelsohn, chef and owner of Good Stuff Eatery in DC, as well as a contestant on the upcoming season of The Next Iron Chef.
With help and inspiration from Spike, the dynamic duo joins forces to cook up several “American Classics a la Mexicana.” They’ll start with one of his specialties — a burger — but with a Mexican twist that will make your mouth water. Later, they’ll indulge in Mexican Coffee Milkshakes, Cilantro French Fries and finally, end with a Dulce de Leche Banana Cream Pie. Watch Eater’s exclusive clip for a sneak peek of tomorrow’s show.
