Aunty Sandy Answered Your Questions

by in View All Posts, June 25th, 2009

sandra_lee_3817Fourth of July is upon us, and so Aunt Sandy took some time to talk with me about the holiday and a bit more. From explaining why the fourth is her favorite holiday weekend (her birthday is the 3rd of July, why wouldn’t it be?), to where she learned to grill (a summer job at the Ramada Inn during her college days), and of course Sandra treats us to a yummy fourth menu.

SECRETARY CONFIDENTIAL
: SHOSHAM wrote in with this question: “If you could only splurge on one thing for your own July 4th party, which would it be: Food, Decorations, or Cocktails?”

Um….Hello?

SANDRA LEE: I’m thinking…that has got to be the hardest question anyone could ask me! Oh man, that’s like choosing your favorite child.

SC: So, is the answer D) All of the above?

If you could ask Ted Allen ANYTHING…

by in View All Posts, June 11th, 2009

chopped

Knock over your television and climb right onto Ted Allen’s set. Fine. Not really to his actual stage spot… BUT, now is your chance to talk to the quirky food personality instead of begging the screen to respond.

tedallenHere’s the deal: I scored an interview with Ted this Monday to chat about hosting the new Chopped episodes premiering next week. So…. Ten, Nine, Eight step away and fire your questions to me for culinary guru Ted Allen, and I’ll pick a few to ask him. If you’re curious as to what top three Chopped secret ingredients Mr. Allen would choose, or what guest judges he’d like to see on the show – now is the time to ask. Send away. You have until this Sunday (6/14) at midnight.

Please Do Not Touch!

by in View All Posts, May 22nd, 2009

I’ll admit. I occasionally nibble at the Whole Foods buffet before paying, you know, to test out my options. And of course, my hands find their way into many a platter here at FN, which might be a bit on the restricted side. But when my handy little camera caught this warning: Ultimate Recipe Showdown Pantry. Please Do Not Touch!, I knew better than to pick, but not even a few exclamation points can keep SC from prodding for answers.

What did I find out? The test kitchens are in the midst of testing recipes for the new series, as the sign indicated, Ultimate Recipe Showdown. Apparently thousands of submissions came in from all over the country, and now the FN recipe testers have to narrow each category (comfort foods, hot & spicy, desserts, etc..) down to just 4 contestants for each show. By the looks of the pantry (dark chocolate chips, boxes of brown sugar, molasses, cupcake tins…), I think they’re in the middle of testing for the desserts episode. Maybe they need help taste testing? I’m available!

Food Network Has a Sister!

by in View All Posts, May 1st, 2009

The Food Network has a sister!  F2 was officially born today – May 1st. Think food, drink and pop culture.

It’s a hip place for the younger crowd, although I’m not necessarily “the younger crowd” anymore….I found some great stuff.  Recipes, blogs, challenges and videos to name a few.  I especially liked The Amateur Gourmet webisodes. Beloved author and blogger, Adam Roberts, treats F2 users to his unique spin all things food.  Be still my heart, Mr. Roberts.  Adorable.  Be sure to check out “Homemade Pasta Episode”  Hilarious!

Until next time…..here’s to eating well!

Secretary Confidential: Follow My Fork

by in View All Posts, View Video Only, April 24th, 2009

Hi FN Dishers!

I am always on a hunt for a bite to eat! Whether it’s leftovers from Sunny’s set or the latest recipe from the test kitchen ….I’ll get my grubby, little hands on it.   Putting my SC Cam to use, follow my fork as I search for FOOD (don’t mind the stomach grumbling). This week, as you’ll see, I found Executive Chef of the Food Network Kitchens, Rob Bleifer, who accused me of stealing food from Viva Daisy’s set.

Twice a month I’ll be posting videos sharing the eats I find.  Let me know where you’d like to see me stick my utensils.  Until next time,  here’s to eating well!

Semi-Homemade Money?

by in View All Posts, April 10th, 2009

Whats better than George Washington on your dollar bill? Sandra Lee! Take a lookey-loo at what the SC got her hands on:

Ms. Lee was just in the FN offices talking biz. That’s how I got my mitts on this green. The word from the top, “she is very smart and very charming!” And I got the Sandra Lee dollar – whoo-hoo!
Now if only I could get her to sign this bill….

Until then….Heres to eating well!

Last weekend I wasn’t the only one clocking some extra hours. Former NFNS, spikey haired host, Guy Fieri was working overtime too—shooting. “How can you work, SC, when larger than life personality is three floors above you taping new shows for Guy’s Big Bite? ” you ask. Well, uh, I didn’t…officially. I just sought out the dish.

As Mr. Fieri would say, what I’ve uncovered “is the bomb!”

I’m seeing (Next Food Network) stars…

by in View All Posts, March 27th, 2009

All the connecting I’ve been doing with old friends via facebook (shhh….really should be working) got me thinking…what the heck is going on with some of the alums of Next Food Network Star? After doing a little digging and investigating, here is what I’ve uncovered:

1. JAG (Joshua Adam Garcia), Season 3 - Still spicing things up with Latino cusine, Jag is heading up the kitchen at the new Tampa restaurant, Posh 27. Word is the restaurant/night club will open this summer and will be sizzling.

2. Kelsey Nixon, Season 4 – The perky Ms. Nixon is sure to be around somewhere, but I can’t spill the beans yet. All that I can say is that you should keep checking in on the Food2 website.

3. Reggie Southerland, Season 2 – The charming, Reggie recently appeared in an episode of Sandra Lee’s Semi-Homemade, and you’ll also see some of his original recipes designed especially for one of my favorite kitchen gadgets – the micoplane!

4. Hans Rueffert, Season 1 – Hans just published his first book, “Eat Like There’s No Tomorrow” (I love this title)– reserve your copy now on Amazon

5. Nathan Lyon, Season 2 – Nathan landed the role as “Food Expert” on the new TLC show, Real Simple Real Life. (OMW – Would I love my very own FE in my amateur kitchen!)

So, there you have it….dear readers. See, you don’t have to be a Star of NFNS, to have one find you. If you are still curious about your favorite NFNS past contestant, no fear! A little birdie has also told me to stay tuned for “Where are they now” videos launching on FoodNetwork.com May 1st. And of course, we’ll all meet an entire new batch of contestants when the season five premieres on June 9th!

What NFNS tid bits are you curious about? Let me know.

Oh and by the way, if you are on Facebook….join the Food Network Group. I just joined, uh, this afternoon…

Till next time, here’s to keeping it hot!
