This weekend on Food Network there are a bunch of must-watch episodes including a behind-the-scenes look at Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.

Start your Saturday morning with an episode of Giada at Home, where Giada and her aunt Raffy share favorite recipes of Giada’s grandfather Dino. Then in the evening it’s a special 1-hour episode of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, offering up an exclusive look at never-before-seen footage of all the antics that didn’t make the regular episode cuts.

On Sunday, watch Guy in the kitchen with Chef Jonathan Waxman as the two cook up an Italian menu that includes a seafood salad and a spring soup. After, on Sandwich King, Jeff meets his match, “the Breakfast King,” and learns to make some unique breakfast sandwiches that he’ll later adapt. In the evening, tune in to see a cosmic-themed episode of Cupcake Wars. Then it’s round 2, battle 1 of the Iron Chef America tournament. And last, watch a new episode of Restaurant: Impossible where Robert must help a family fix their dysfunctional restaurant and relationships.

Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives is now in its seventeenth season — 17 seasons of Guy Fieri finding funky, scratch-made and one-of-a-kind eats across the country. Now this Food Network star returns with an all-new book, the third in the Triple D series, The Funky Finds in Flavortown: America’s Classic Joints and Killer Comfort Food. This time around he’s bringing on the big personalities, the recipes and the homegrown restaurants that capture the freewheeling American spirit at its finest.

On tonight’s all-new episode of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives (10pm/9c), Guy’s hitting the road in search of classic comfort foods across the country. His first stop is The Stockyards: Smokehouse & Larder in Toronto, where he’ll sample the ultimate indulgent burger and a next-level BLT. Later he’s off to Burbank, Calif., for real-deal chili at Chili John’s before he heads back east. He rolls into Tacoma, Wash., to taste the over-the-top pork tacos and deep-fried four-cheese tots at Dirty Oscar’s Annex before heading to Denver’s Highland Tavern, set in a century-old building that was once the site of a brewing company. There he digs into the ultimate pastrami sandwich, piled high with melted cheese, an over-medium egg and creamy coleslaw, plus golden-brown tater tots and crispy puffed pigs’ skins.

Among locals in the South, it’s common to believe that one style of barbecue reigns supreme, that a signature blend of spices and use of the sauces, rubs and techniques turns out real-deal ribs, pulled pork and brisket, and others’ versions aren’t true ‘cue. In tonight’s marathon of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, Guy‘s delving into the world of Tennessee barbecue with a tour of Memphis hot spots. His first stop is Leonard’s, an almost-100-year-old institution specializing in classics like meaty ribs and chopped pork; then he heads to Tom’s Bar-B-Q for a deliciously speedy meal made with Mediterranean flavors.

After a weekend in Memphis, Guy takes off to discover authentic German dishes in Chicago and a Honolulu food truck serving Island-style fare before setting his sights on the city. He’s at The Sparrow Tavern in Queens, N.Y., known for its elevated takes on bar food, including the Bifteki Burger Sandwich, before moving on to Indianapolis. It’s not news to anyone that Guy Fieri is a total rock star. His “Chef-Dude” magnetism has been chronicled by the New York Times: It all started with his win on The Next Food Network Star; then came Guy’s Big Bite and soon after, the wildly popular Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. More recently there’s been Tailgate Warriors, a game show and cooking demonstrations that rival sold-out pop concerts. When Guy’s yellow Lamborghini went missing a couple of weeks ago, it was national news.

But Guy’s rock-star status was never more evident to me than when I stumbled upon a mom-and-pop restaurant in Mandeville, Louisiana (a suburb across Lake Pontchartrain from New Orleans), that had received a visit from Triple-D. The episode featuring Louie and the Redhead Lady aired this winter, and Chef Louie and his wife Ginger (a.k.a., you guessed it, the Redhead Lady) are still flying high from the experience — and the huge boom in business that it set off.
