The Season 3 Chopped Teen Tournament kicked off this week, as the first four young chefs competed to secure a spot in the grand finale, where the finalists will face off for the $25,000 prize. Don’t let their ages fool you; these teens trained like athletes for the show, arriving prepared with the tools and professional know-how to meet the rigorous demands of each mystery basket challenge.

In the appetizer round, speck was plucked from the mystery baskets and really took center stage in each of the four contestants’ dishes. You may be more familiar with the term “prosciutto” for the popular Italian charcuterie. Speck, however, is a specific variation from Italy’s northern-most Italian region, Alto Adige.

This last battle would determine who would win the $25,000 prize and the coveted title, which in itself brings bragging rights for a kid in high school. The teens had to face challenging mystery baskets that no amount of practice could enable anyone to predict, while also being creative, cooking flavorfully and presenting dishes that appealed to the judges. But nothing could truly prepare them for the pressure and the time constraints. Ultimately one of them rose to the top with three courses that earned the championship title and the $25,000.

That’s exactly what fans can expect from Season 2 of Chopped Teen Tournament, premiering Tuesday, Aug. 25 at 10|9c. The kids taking on the five-part competition are extremely talented and “inspiring,” as Chopped host Ted Allen pointed out in a recent interview with FN Dish.

“The latest tournament is the best we’ve done yet, thanks to the kids,” said Ted of the budding chefs, calling them “the real stars of Chopped.”

The Summer of Competition Heats Up on Chopped with New Seasons of Grill Masters and Teen Tournament

Chopped Grill MastersChopped Grill Masters and Chopped Teen Tournament are back for second seasons on Food Network. First off starting July 14 at 10|9c, Tuesday nights are getting fired up with Chopped Grill Masters. There’s a $50,000 grand prize on the line as 16 chefs/grilling pros head out of the kitchen to compete in the great outdoors, working with mystery baskets that put their grilling and barbecue skills to the test. Judges Scott Conant, Alex Guarnaschelli and Chris Santos, with special guest judges Amy Mills and Tim Love, will decide the fate of each competitor in the five-part tournament. Once the dust clears, there will be only one Grill Masters Chopped Champion.

They’d battled before and now they battled once again, but only one of them left with $25,000 in prize money, a coveted culinary school scholarship worth $40,000 and the title of Chopped Teen Grand Champion, the bragging rights of which are priceless when it comes to being just a kid in school.
