Friends and Berkeley, Calif., locals Ramonn and Mark were disappointed in their neighborhood’s lounge offerings, so they teamed up to open the ultimate swanky concept. Although Mark has vast experience in the restaurant industry, he and Ramonn would be novice owners, so they needed the help of Buy This Restaurant‘s Keith Simpson to track down the ideal location to launch their eatery. After visiting possible spaces in both Berkeley and San Francisco, they selected a prime corner location close to home and soon opened 44 Restaurant & Bar. Congratulations on opening 44 Restaurant & Bar! How was the renovation process, and when did you open to customers?
Ramonn and Mark: We officially opened for business March 14, 2014. The renovations were a challenge, but exciting all along the way. We are very pleased with our finished product.

Leaving behind pasts in Washington, D.C., Tim and Jennifer moved south to Fort Lauderdale and soon set their sights on business ownership. How is construction going at McNabs Dockside? In what stage is the renovation, and when do you plan to open?
Construction is going great. We are approaching the final stage. We anticipate opening in May.

Husband and wife Keith and Raquel were no strangers to the food industry when they met Keith Simpson, as they’ve been owners of a successful Indianapolis-area catering company for years. It was only after they decided to pursue a sit-down eatery that they looked to Buy This Restaurant for help in purchasing the ideal location. They toured three possible hot spots before ultimately selecting a 3,800-square-foot restaurant in Noblesville, Ind., that offered both room for a traditional service as well as a private area for catering.
FN Dish checked in with Keith a few months after he and Raquel bought their restaurant, now named The Ville Restaurant, to learn their plans for the business and to find out how the construction process is faring today. Read on below for an exclusive interview.
How is construction going on The Ville Restaurant? In what stage is the renovation, and when do you plan to open?
Keith: Things are going well with construction. … So far we have only completed light demo, but if all goes as planned we will open in June 2014.

Staci, Dan and Kim were determined to bring a slice of their home city of Chicago to the South when they moved to Nashville, and for them that meant opening a restaurant serving authentic Windy City-style deep-dish pizza. Although the trio was clear in its hopes for a family-friendly pizzeria, help was needed from Buy This Restaurant and famed broker Keith Simpson to find the ultimate location for the business. After scouring the city of Nashville and beyond, they purchased a vacant space in Germantown, Tenn., which would ultimately become 312 Pizza Company.

With a shared wish to own their own eatery, friends and colleagues Jody and Rhonda looked to Buy This Restaurant‘s Keith Simpson for help in finding the ultimate location to launch their would-be business. They wanted a spot in which they could run a sports-themed restaurant with a communal, family-friendly focus, and after exploring three options with Keith, the clients purchased Skinnyz Bar & Grille, an existing business they later transformed into Moochie’s Tavern.
FN Dish checked in with Rhonda a few months after she and Jody opened Moochie’s to find out how the restaurant is faring today. Read on below to hear from Rhonda, and learn about her experience in buying a restaurant and how it’s been to run it so far.
How is Moochie’s Tavern doing today? What have the monthly sales been at the restaurant? What is the greatest expenditure at your business?
Rhonda: Moochie’s is doing really well! We have more than doubled our business in two short months; monthly sales are presently $50,000. We are extremely excited about the sales growth, especially as the increase in business has been organic — all word of mouth. We have done no advertising while we establish our menu and get our team up to speed.
Believe it or not, signs are really expensive. The sign, the addition of 11 TVs, and reorienting the booths have been the costliest for us.

Both in need of a fresh financial start, friends Matt and Andrea were looking to launch a brand-new business together, their first-ever restaurant that would ideally feature an eclectic menu and offer live music. They looked to Buy This Restaurant for help in tracking down the ultimate location to open, and after scouring a few spots with Keith Simpson, they decided on the 1,100-square-foot restaurant in the Boston neighborhood of Jamaica Plain on account of its prime location.

When Joanie and Cary began their Buy This Restaurant journey with Keith Simpson, they weren’t business newbies, having run their Skinny Limits juicing operation out of a food truck for a while.
They would be, however, first-time restaurant owners, so they looked to Keith for help in finding a prime location that would offer them the expanded real estate for customer service they so desperately craved, plus room to bottle and distribute their products — fresh juices and raw foods among them. After scouring several Austin properties, some with asking prices well within their $350,000 budget as well as some that were over budget, the husband-and-wife clients opted to pursue a space that was once home to a music store. Although this location had not previously been set up as a restaurant, it promised a whopping 3,300 square feet of space and came with what Keith called a “monument sign” out front, which would go a long way in helping Joanie and Cary promote their restaurant.
FN Dish caught up with Joanie a few months after filming the show to find out how their business is progressing, and to learn more about her and Cary’s plans for Skinny Limits. Read on below for an exclusive first interview with Joanie and to get the latest details on the restaurant.
How is the renovation process? Has it taken the full six months to open?
Joanie: It is going great. Of course it’s slower than we want, but as the building is taking shape, we are getting more and more excited. It’s going to take the full six months to get it open. With design review, permits, construction bids, etc., it’s a long process. Having our temporary kitchen has been a great way for us to keep up with the growth of our shipping business without getting too stressed out.
On the series premiere of Buy This Restaurant, Kelly and her sister Lisa began the process of shopping for Minneapolis-area hot spots to launch their first-ever eatery, a coffee shop-cafe that would feature simple bites like soup and sandwiches. It was important to these restaurant rookies that their eventual business be quaint enough to offer neighborhood charm, so they tasked Keith Simpson with finding a location that would meet their criteria, all while staying within their budget of $300,000. Although Keith showed Kelly and Lisa two earlier properties that were well within their budget, they ultimately decided to purchase the third and last restaurant, Hans’ Bakery, which was a bank-owned property listed for $49,000. The price of Hans’ may have been just right, especially since their purchase price was ultimately nearer $30,000, however the state of its interior was anything but; the kitchen at the bakery was overrun with uncleanliness, and Kelly and Lisa faced the daunting task of deep-cleaning it before opening day.

What will be the name of your new bakery, and when do you plan to open?
Kelly: We will reopen Hans’ Bakery under its original name, as a tribute to the man who made it into a local icon. Our grand opening date will be Feb. 22, 2014.
What was the most-influential factor in you choosing Hans’ Bakery over the neighborhood general store and the downtown cafe?
Kelly: There was never really a decision to be made; my heart was in the bakery that I went to as a child.
