In just three short weeks, New York City will host culinary legends from around the country at the fourth annual New York City Wine and Food Festival. This year’s festival welcomes chefs and culinary personalities from Food Network, including: Giada De Laurentiis, Sandra Lee, Duff Goldman, Paula Deen, Guy Fieri, Bobby Flay, Anne Burrell, Tyler Florence and Masaharu Morimoto.

In case you haven’t heard, FN Dish is participating in Healthy Eats’ Brown-Bag Challenge. The challenge: Bring your lunch to work each weekday for the month of September. We know this isn’t an easy feat, so we’ve asked some of our favorite food bloggers to share their experience and favorite recipes to help keep everyone motivated.

I’ve always been a brown-bag luncher. It wasn’t always by choice, but I’m glad I started this habit early in life.
My mom always sent my sister and me to school with a lunchbox. To be honest, I was totally embarrassed because all my friends got to order the hot lunch at school, and I was stuck with something from home. But my mom wasn’t into us eating pizza every day for lunch so there was just no way around it. In high school I had a little more freedom, and I bought lunch a few days a week. After the initial excitement of eating whatever was in the cafeteria that day, I decided I preferred bringing my lunch from home and begged my mom to continue to pack my lunch. In college I strategically scheduled my classes so I had time to run home and whip up a quick salad or something semi-healthy to get me through the day. And now, in the real world, I’m still all about packing lunches and planning ahead.

Tomatoes are reaching their peak in several parts of the country, and the fall harvest is on the horizon: The ocean is offering a bounty of catches. September is one of the most abundant months for vittles, and the festival offerings that follow reflect that.
Louisiana Shrimp & Petroleum Festival, Morgan City, La., Sept. 1-5: This 76th annual Labor Day weekend gathering celebrates industries crucial to the Bayou State’s economy and the individuals who work in the shrimping and oil businesses. Aside from tons of shrimp, Cajun classics like jambalaya and fried alligator will be on the menu. Carnival rides, arts and crafts, a car show and live music round out what is one of the most unique food festivals in the country.

It’s no surprise that Ree Drummond, better known as the Pioneer Woman, would have a strong following of Tweets during this past Saturday’s premiere show on Food Network, but fans took it one step further by throwing Pioneer Woman watch parties. Fans young and old gathered around the couch with delicious dishes of chocolate cake, macaroni and cheese, and complete breakfast buffets like @jenjenk enjoyed with her family (pictured above). Last week, Food Network launched The Great Food Truck Race: Lunch Is On Us campaign, with Korilla BBQ and Devilicious Food Truck each serving out 100 free lunches this past Friday in New York City and San Diego, respectively.
Fans that waited in line on Friday for Korilla BBQ got to choose anything off their menu, including their famous burritos. Over on the West Coast, fans were treated to Devilicious’ decadent butter-poached lobster grilled cheese sandwiches.
“This has been a great experience — such an incredible turnout,” said Eddie from Korilla BBQ. “We’re ready to make 200-300 meals today, possibly 500 including dinner.”

This past weekend marked the third annual Atlantic City Food & Wine Festival, featuring numerous events that showcased the talents of Food Network and Cooking Channel personalities like Sunny Anderson, Guy Fieri, Robert Irvine and The Neelys. With over 30 events, cooking demos and seminars to choose from, I certainly had my hands full. However, over the course of four days, these five moments struck a chord and were most memorable:
1. Watching Guy crown the first-ever female winner, Nicole DiZio, during his popular Cheesesteak Battle on Friday night.

It takes more than a monsoon to keep Guy Fieri from presiding over a selection of the best cheesesteaks Atlantic City could pack into the Dennis Courtyard at Bally’s Hotel & Casino last Friday night. Fans of the cheesy sub and the star of the new show Rachael vs. Guy started rolling in, despite muggy temps and sudden storms, and lined up nonstop to sample some classic and fresh takes on cheesesteaks.
Recent contestants on Food Network Star –Mary Beth, Chris, Alicia, Jeff, Susie and Whitney — were also in attendance and in full fan-mode, greeting and taking pictures with fans. Mary Beth had her eye on last year’s cheesesteak winner, Tony Boloney’s, who brought back their gooey American cheese-filled spicy sando and posed a steamy threat to the other eight competitors. With their signature “mustache army” of blue-shirted, beret-wearing staffers, complete with blue and red vuvuzelas (remember those from the World Cup?) and bullhorns, you’d be hard-pressed to not notice — and stand in line for their messy yet tasty sandwich.

Sweltering, smelting furnace-like temperatures won’t prevent Americans from celebrating the bounty of land and sea this month. August kicks off with coastal fun and winds through berry patches, cabbage heads and myriad sweet selections for those who want to heat things up or cool off.
Main Lobster Festival, Rockland, Maine, Aug. 3-7: From the crowning of the Sea Goddess on the first of the five-day fete to the touring of naval vessels, this 63rd annual event attracts more than 20,000 visitors respectful of the ocean and its gifts, gifts that involves 20,000 pounds of lobster, cooking competitions, a parade and a lobster-crate race. The contest is a run over a floating string of traps. Not falling into the frigid Atlantic is a win. Landlubbers need not apply. They can safely crack up with the crustacean fun on dry land and enjoy a lobster roll. Or five.
Mossyrock Blueberry Festival, Mossyrock, Wash., Aug. 6: The unassuming berry conquers all for one day. Only in its third year, this food fair involves all the usual festival diversions: a parade, a car show, a quilt show, blueberry beer, even a raucous pie-eating contest. However, the folks in Mossyrock know it takes more than that to attract thousands of visitors. This early August celebration also offers twin giant blueberry piñatas stuffed with sweet treats. The Friends of Cowlitz hosts a fish tank where children will learn about river and wetlands restoration and everyone can try their hand at the dunking booth.
