Back in July when we hosted “take your kids to work day” in Food Network’s offices, our editors were already in planning mode for the holidays. For a fun activity with our group of 8- to 12-year-old visitors, we printed blown-up images of some of FoodNetwork.com’s top cookie recipes and asked the kids to vote for their favorites. Sugar cookies were the overall crowd favorite, but chocolatey cookies like Bobby’s Triple-Chocolate Cookies also ranked high for the kids. This prompted one young future food editor to comment: “You should have chocolate sugar cookies!” We loved the idea and promised we’d run with it.

Waffle obsession is upon us. It started when Leah Brickley, a Food Network Kitchens’ recipe developer, made French toast in a waffle iron. It was so good, with the perfect ratio of crispy and crunchy to creamy and eggy, that FoodNetwork.com’s editors questioned why waffling isn’t the standard method of preparing French toast. Why isn’t this on brunch menus across the country? We wondered. And then: What else can we waffle?

Waffle mania ensued. Sure, there were some misses — which we’ll share with you in a later post — but Leah and team came up with a dozen waffled recipes that just might best the originals (you should have seen the Iron Chef America crew, passing by tastings and doing double-takes at the creations). Bobby Celebrates the Perfect Taco at Tacos and Tequila

Bobby Flay at Tacos and TequilaTacos are having a moment in New York City right now, and it was on full display at Bobby Flay‘s fourth annual Tacos & Tequila party. This can’t-miss event has become a Saturday night staple of the New York City Wine & Food Festival. This year, nearly 30 of Bobby’s NYC chef “brothers and sisters” served up their tastiest tacos, and there were even stations from a few out-of-town friends.

Pier 92 was packed with taco-loving fans — including Food Network stars like Giada De Laurentiis, Chopped judge Aarón Sánchez and newly minted Star winner Damaris Phillips — eager to sample the offerings and sip Olmeca Altos margaritas.

FN Dish asked Bobby what makes up his perfect taco. “The perfect taco should be spicy, sweet, sour and crispy,” the event host told us, as he manned his Bar Americain station and chatted with hundreds of fans. Bobby’s own taco certainly met his criteria: He served a pork, pineapple and pomegranate taco wrapped in a crisp radicchio leaf for a refreshing flavor-packed bite.
