What’s Shooting Now?

Food Network Crew Build Set

While sitting in my cubicle today, my mind began to wander upstairs…soon my feet followed my mind, and I found myself in Studio A of Food Network, the largest studio in the building. This is where Rachael Ray tapes 30 Minute Meals, where Iron Chef America battles, where Guy Fieri takes big bites, where Sunny Anderson cooks for real, and unlike my cubicle, it’s where ALL the magic happens.

But the magic doesn’t happen all at once! After each show tapes, usually a couple weeks depending on the series, the crew breaks down the set and rebuilds for the next show. So there will always be just one show taping in the studio at one time. The question is…..who’s in there today?

Can anyone use their Sherlock Holmes detective work or their Spidey-Sense to figure out what set our crew is finishing for tomorrow’s shoot?

Dave Letterman recently surprised Guy Fieri with a 3lb burger.
You should see the fries that go with that one.

Watch Guy’s technique to tackle this bite — “The Hunch”.

If you don’t have a burger to test your “Hunch” on, try one of these Food Network burger classics

Or head down to Hillbilly Hot Dogs in West VA for the real deal.
You can get the location of Hillbilly and all of Guy’s stops here.

National Pie Day — It’s True!

by in View All Posts, January 23rd, 2009

You didn’t really believe we would let the day pass without wishing you HAPPY NATIONAL PIE DAY, did you? That’s right, who knew…

We’re celebrating with this gravity-defying wonder from Paula DeenSavannah High Apple Pie. I mean, c’mon — apples are in season, it’s Paula and this looks amazing. Has anyone ever tried?

If you’re saving your sugar for Valentine’s Day, you MUST whip up this savory treat from Ina Garten. My mom usually sticks with her favorites but made this Chicken Pot Pie and knocked it out of the park. I’m actually craving it now — ah, that buttery pastry topping.

If you want some other celebratory ideas, check out the award winners from the All-American Pie Championship.

My Next Food Network Star Spotting

by in View All Posts, January 22nd, 2009

Giada at homeWhen I first started at the Food Network, I envisioned lively coffee breaks with Giada on slow Monday afternoons. Or maybe shop talk over a toasty sandwich with Bobby in the Kitchens… Though this is not our reality and only some shows tape here in Chelsea Market, I have a few memorable run-ins to share.

I once heard Michael Symon’s distinctive laugh echoing down a hallway and scampered down to catch a glimpse. He’s definitely the Iron Chef with a heart of gold. Another time, I literally bumped into Duff Goldman while taking a corner too quickly. He laughed it off as I stuttered an apology and awkwardly ran back to my desk. Just last week I rode the elevator with Rachael Ray and her husband John – really!

But my favorite star-spotting happened while I was diligently finishing an expense report and heard a familiar voice. I looked up and, lo and behold, there was Alton Brown standing right in front of me!

What’s your best Food Network star run-in? We want stories!
