What to Watch: Mexican Food Madness, Chopped All-Stars Finale and Iron Chef America Tournament Premiere

All-StarsThis weekend, it’s all about Mexican food and a night of serious competition with the finale of Chopped All-Stars and premiere of Iron Chef America: Tournament of Champions.

Start your Saturday morning with Paula, who’s cooking a feast of sloppy but delicious Tex-Mex inspired recipes with her friend Cheryl. Later in the morning, Giada makes modern interpretations of Mexican dishes. On Sunday morning, Guy’s cooking a south-of-the-border feast. And on Sandwich King, Jeff is making Mexican wraps.

On Sunday evening tune in to all the competition, starting with a new episode of Cupcake Wars, where the bakers compete for a chance to serve their goods at the South Beach Wine & Food Festival. Then it’s the finale of Chopped All-Stars. Watch to see if Sunny, Gavin, Scott or Laila takes the championship. And last, it’s the premiere of Iron Chef America: Tournament of Champions, in which Iron Chef battles Iron Chef. In this first battle, Geoffrey Zakarian is up against Alex Guarnaschelli.

Chopped Mystery Basket Weirdest Ingredient Bracket Tournament — Vote in the Finals

Chopped BracketSome of the mystery basket ingredients that get used on Chopped are pretty unusual, to say the least. But the culinary producers who come up with them don’t just draw them out of a hat — though sometimes it does seem that way! They take their time to decide on the ingredients, making sure the basket components are just right and actually manageable. FN Dish queried the culinary producers to find out the top 16 weirdest basket ingredients they’ve had on the show. The list of ingredients ranged from goat brains to gummy eggs over easy — almost no ingredient is off-limits.

Now it’s up to you, Chopped fans, to vote on the ingredient you think is the weirdest of them all in this four-round bracket tournament, which coincides with the new season of Chopped All-Stars.

Catching Up With Ted Allen, Host of the 2013 James Beard Foundation Book, Broadcast & Journalism Awards

Ted AllenOn Friday, May 3, the James Beard Foundation will have its annual Book, Broadcast & Journalism Awards. And this year, Food Network’s own Ted Allen has the honor of hosting the event, one of the biggest in the culinary world. Ted isn’t a stranger to the awards — last year he was the winner for best Media Personality/Host for Chopped, beating out Ina Garten and Sara Moulton. Chopped also won for best Television Program in a Studio or Fixed Location. With all his experience hosting, the JBF awards should be a piece of cake for Ted. But does he have anything to fear?

We caught up with Ted to chat about his hosting responsibilities, his view on the awards ceremony and what he thinks is the next big thing to look out for in the food world.

Jack and Lucia Penrod, who opened their first location in Miami Beach in 1998, were looking for an executive chef for their new location in Ibiza, Spain. Anne Burrell and the Chef Wanted team were called in to help with the search. After two grueling tests and dinner services, an offer was extended to Chef Jouvens Jean.

What to Watch Tonight: Finale of Chef Wanted and Premiere of Giving You the Business

Chef Wanted Nikki BeachChef Wanted comes to a jet-setting finish on tonight’s episode at a special time of 9pm/8c. Watch as Anne Burrell brings in four candidates who are fighting for a chance to get the executive chef position at the new Ibiza location of upscale restaurant Nikki Beach. The chefs will be put through two rigorous cooking tests at the restaurant’s Miami Beach location. The two remaining finalists will each get a chance to prove themselves to the owners in a dinner service, but only one will be offered the new position.

Right afterward at 10pm/9c, watch the premiere of Food Network’s new series Giving You the Business, hosted by NBA star Walter Bond. On this episode, four unsuspecting employees of restaurant franchise Famous Famiglia Pizzeria will be secretly tested in a series of outrageous challenges designed to gauge their skills at running a business. With hidden cameras capturing every move, the strongest candidate will walk away with the keys to the franchise.

What to Watch: Easy Entertaining, Recipe Inspirations and Chopped Judges Competing on All-Stars

If you’re planning on entertaining soon or are looking for new recipe inspiration, Food Network has you covered with a lot of ideas this weekend. Not only that, but if you’re a fan of Chopped, you’ll want to tune into Chopped All-Stars where the tables have turned on four judges (watch a preview above), who are competing for the title of champion and $50,000 for charity.

On Saturday morning, Paula and entertaining guru James Farmer show you some easy and delicious entertaining recipes. Then Ree is cooking up a Mexican-inspired menu for a gathering of her investment club. Later, Giada is taking inspiration from the Venices of Italy and California to come up with her light and refreshing menu.

The cooking continues on Sunday morning as Guy is inspired to come up with recipes based on Chinese takeout items. Later in the morning, Jeff and his son, Lorenzo, learn how graham crackers and marshmallows are made, which leads Jeff to come up with an entire menu of sweet sandwiches.

In the evening it’s competition time beginning with Cupcake Wars, where the bakers are competing for a chance to serve at the People’s Choice Awards. Then on Chopped All-Stars, four judges compete against one another and are judged by their own peers. On Restaurant: Impossible, Robert helps a couple loosen control over their restaurant so they can let the next generation take the reins.
