What Do You Get When You Cross a Latte and an Avocado?

What’s more on trend with millennials than artfully poured lattes and avocados? How about — hold onto your knit caps, cuffed jeans, ironic t-shirts, bushy beards and fixed-gear bicycles! — an artfully poured latte in an avocado.

Truman Café in Melbourne, Australia, has created just such a thing, posting to its Instagram account a video of a latte being painstakingly and prettily poured into a partway-hollowed-out avocado half.

“Combining two of Melbourne's obsessions - lattes and avo,” Truman Café mused in the video caption, capped off with a Face With Tears of Joy Emoji.

The joy was hardly contained. In just one week, the video racked up more than 6,300 views and hundreds of comments, this despite the fact that the café has only 474 followers on Instagram and also despite the fact that the original video was, um, not meant to be taken seriously.

“It was actually just a joke. We weren’t actually selling them but then someone came in today and wanted one,” the cafe’s barista, Jaydin Nathan, told News.com.au. “I think it’s ridiculous. It’s literally coffee in a piece of rubbish.”

Yet now that the avolatte, as it was dubbed somewhere along the line to virality, has been born, it seems to have established a Frankenstein-esque life of its own, racking up media mentions aplenty, and even a nod (or knock) from those trend watchers at Merriam-Webster, who tweeted, “Word We’re Not Watching: avolatte.”

The cafe seems to be enjoying its moment in the spotlight. It has posted a follow-up Instagram image of three amply bearded dudes (staffers? customers?) proudly holding their avolattes.

“Smiles all round here at Truman Cafe as our infamous ‘Avo Latte's’ are all the rage right now,” it captioned the image.

Infamous being the operative word.
