Exclusive Interview with the Latest Celebrity Worst Cook to Be Eliminated

This week on Worst Cooks in America: Celebrity Edition, the recruits were tested on teamwork, communication skills and complex cooking techniques. We saw the return of Remote Control Chef, which had each team directing their mentor in cooking a recipe. The teams came together and worked well under the pressure.

The Main Dish challenge, however, would prove to be an exercise in frustration for some, especially when it came to using a vast array of unfamiliar spices. The Red Team’s Matt and the Blue Team’s John ended up being nominated for the elimination challenge, where both had to create their own kebabs in order to save themselves. But an accident almost derailed one of the recruits. Find out who got sent home and who saved himself to cook another week.

When it came to cooking his Indian dish, Matt turned out what Anne called “a mushy vegetable stew” with lamb kebabs that could have used more color and more seasoning. Matt was nominated for the elimination round, along with John from the Blue Team. Both men would have to cook kebabs again, but this time they would have free creative rein.

Midway through prep John cut his finger, which resulted in a pause until he was bandaged up. After they got back to cooking, both celebs pulled off successful-looking dishes. Blind judging, Rachael and Anne found John’s chicken-and-pineapple kebabs well flavored and thoroughly cooked. However, Matt’s steak-and-onion kebabs didn’t have enough color and the onions were nearly raw, so he was eliminated. Matt leaves with $5,000 for his charity, Arizona Children’s Association.

How would you sum up your time on the show? How has it been?

Matt Dallas: Oh my God. It has been intense, but it has been so much fun. I’ve learned so many new things that I can’t wait to get home and practice, put to use.

Do you think after this you’ll get more involved at home in the kitchen?

MD: I’ll definitely get more involved in the kitchen. Cooking is always something that I’ve really loved, so this has given me so many new skills that I can go home and actually utilize and be able to expand on something that I already knew that I really enjoyed.

How was your experience with Anne? Is there something that you take away from working with her?

MD: You know, it’s funny. Going into this I really thought Anne was going to be the tough one, and I kept hearing about how Anne is the one who really cracks the whip, but she actually turned out to be incredibly sweet and nurturing and such a joy to work under.

What were some of your struggles today during the Main Dish challenge?

MD: I struggled with meat, and I’ve struggled with meat since I first came here, and it’s still something that I haven’t quite mastered, so I think it’ll be something that I continue to work on in the future.

Did you think that you’d end up in the bottom two after that round?

MD: I had a feeling, yeah, I knew I was going to end up in the bottom two today. Well, at least after our tasting I knew that I would end up in the bottom two. There were just enough little mistakes that added up to qualifying me to be nominated today.

How was your confidence going into the elimination challenge?

MD: Going into the elimination challenge I actually felt pretty good. I felt like I had a good plan, I had a creative sauce. It’s just the execution wasn’t quite there.

Do you leave with any regrets? Is there something you wish you could have done differently?

MD: I can’t say that I have any regrets or there’s anything I would have done different, because I think that I really … tried to do my best, and I feel like I created a lot of really nice dishes. You know, of course in retrospect there are a lot of things that now I would do differently, but at the time, I think, I really gave it my all and had fun.

What was the camaraderie like working with the other celebs?

MD: The amount of love and support and the teamwork that went into the Red Team, I think, was pretty incredible, and we all were there for each other through the whole way, the whole process, and I’m incredibly thankful for my teammates.

Is there anyone in particular that you’re rooting for to make it all the way to the end?

MD: That’s a hard one. … I don’t know that I could say that, because even all four of those guys that are still here, I’ve just got so much love for. I would be thrilled to see any of them win.
