On this week's episode of Chopped Junior there were definitely some challenging secret ingredients in the contestant's bright yellow mystery baskets. But ultimately it wasn't the beef tongue, the quail or even the outrageous tie-dyed cake that really tripped up our young chefs — the trickiest ingredient turned out to be a simple carrot!

Glazing carrots is a super-easy technique, but I think we can all agree that when there's a clock ticking down and a $10,000 prize on the line, it's easy to burn those little root vegetables — and that's exactly what happened to two contestants.

Here are four Food Network Kitchen recipes for really great glazed carrots. Just remember to always keep a careful eye on them while cooking!

Orange-Glazed Carrots: Orange juice does double duty in this recipe, acting as both the liquid and the sugar needed for successful glazing.

Ginger Honey Glazed Carrots: Just a little bit of honey is partnered with some water and butter to make sweet and buttery carrots with a bite of fresh ginger.

Marmalade-Glazed Carrots with Candied Pecans: Marmalade, orange juice and some brown sugar are the trio responsible for glazing these baby carrots.

Cranberry-Glazed Carrots: No-sugar-added cranberry juice is the sole sweetener and liquid in this recipe for ruby-red carrots.

Tune in next Tuesday at 8|7c to see which Chopped Junior contestant wins it all.
