As temperatures begin to warm with the turn to spring, the competition in the kitchen heats up as eight of the country’s most-talented bakers compete on Food Network’s new series Spring Baking Championship, premiering Sunday, April 26 at 9|8c. Bobby Deen hosts this sweet competition, in which contestants attempt to rise to the occasion with their springtime treats and win a sweet spot in the hearts of judges Duff Goldman, Nancy Fuller and Lorraine Pascale. Only one winner will take home the grand prize of $50,000 and the title of Spring Baking Champion.
From creating Mother’s Day brunches to serving up Memorial Day family picnics, the competitors must prove their baking abilities each step of the way. In each of the six episodes, the bakers are tested in a pre-heat round, in which one baker is granted a special advantage in the main heat. Along the way they must endure surprising twists in order to succeed.
Some of the baking challenges will include:
Creating flower-inspired cupcakes for spring
Making an upside-down cake using fresh fruit
Using honey as the main ingredient in various sweet treats
Making a tart using lemons and limes
Baking a dozen dessert pops
Assembling a layered trifle with a springtime twist
Making a red, white and blue dessert to celebrate Memorial Day
Putting together an impressive wedding dessert bar
Baking an elegant wedding cake
