All-New Food Truck Rookies Hit the Road for The Great Food Truck Race, Season 5

by in Shows, July 14th, 2014

Tyler FlorenceThis summer, The Great Food Truck Race returns for Season 5, premiering Sunday, Aug. 17 at 9|8c, with host Tyler Florence and eight brand-new food truck teams. This season’s high-stakes culinary road trip will take the hopefuls on a new route beginning in Southern California and culminating in a triple-city finale in Florida. None of the teams are current food truck operators — they’re hitting the ground as rookies. But they do have food skills, fresh concepts and entrepreneurial spirits, which they’ll need to rely on if they plan to make it to the end for a chance at winning their own food truck business and $50,000 in seed money.

Watch a sneak peek of the new season below.

This season the route will take the teams to Santa Barbara and Venice Beach, Calif.; Tucson, Ariz.; Austin; Oklahoma City; St. Louis; Mobile, Ala.; and Tampa, Naples and Key West, Fla. Each team’s cooking — and selling — skills will be put to the test in various challenges that will uniquely differ from city to city. On the first day, each team will be provided with a vehicle for the duration of the race, but only the grand-prize winner will get to keep their truck. These rookies will soon learn that operating a food truck is a lot harder than it looks.

This season’s teams are:
Beach Cruiser (Venice, Calif.)
Chatty Chicken (Chattanooga)
Gourmet Graduates (Providence)
Let There Be Bacon (Cleveland)
Lone Star Chuck Wagon (Houston)
Madres Mexican Meals (Norwalk, Calif.)
Middle Feast (Los Angeles)
Military Moms (Fort Drum, N.Y.)

got to see the final two in Key West… was fun!

  4. I'm shocked that they're revealing the cities and food trucks..NOT! . Its ironic that in the first 2 seasons things were kept under lock and key! The cast were not allowed to tweet or use any form of social media, and now look… they (Food Network) is spilling the beans IN HOPE that foodies will flock to these rookies, so that they will have a decent crowd to film. Oh Food Network, if you had just let foodies tweet and share the info, you wouldn't have to succumb to what we already know, that the power of social media actually works!

Having been born and raised in Philly I know that last year they had a food truck, but growing up in that city I never saw a food truck anywhere. Now I hear they are very popular. I now reside in New Jersey and have lived here for many years and I still haven't seen a food truck of any kind in New Jersey. Where are you all hiding?
I would love to check you out.
