A traditional Moscow Mule calls for vodka mixed with lime, sugar and ginger beer. This version infuses even more ginger flavor by simmering ginger grounds with maple syrup (you can also make your own brown sugar syrup) before stirring in lemon juice and vodka. Top with club soda and garnish with a piece of fresh ginger.
2. Chai Iced Tea
You may have heard of Thai Iced Tea and Chai Tea but this summer drink is the perfect combination of both flavors and textures. Skip store-bought chai mix and make it easily at home by steeping black tea with peppercorns, cinnamon sticks, star anise and cardamom pods. Start with a homemade chai, then mix it with sweetened condensed milk and regular milk for a rich, creamy and indulgent drink.
3. Grilled Arnold Palmer Cocktail
This traditionally nonalcoholic drink named after the golfer is a mix of half lemonade and half iced tea. Grill slices of lemon before squeezing (plus reserve a few rounds for garnish), and turn this beverage into an adults-only drink with a shot of bourbon.
4. Watermelon-Lemonade Slushie
Give this frozen drink a subtle herbaceous flavor by making a simple syrup that’s infused with chopped basil leaves. You can place slices of watermelon in a single layer on a rimmed baking sheet, then freeze until the slices are completely frozen, that way the final drink flavors won’t be watered down by the addition of ice cubes. Blend the ingredients together for a refreshing summer slushie.
