Regional Foods Face-Off — America’s Best Cook Bracket Challenge, Round 1

by in Shows, April 3rd, 2014

Round 1 Bracket ChallengeAmong the many things that define the United States, foods are at the top of that list. And every region has its specialty, whether it is lobster rolls from the East, chili from the North, shrimp and grits from the South or tacos from the West. On the new series America’s Best Cook, premiering on Sunday, April 13 at 9|8c, home cooks from the four corners of the country have come to Food Network headquarters to be mentored by FN chefs and battle it out for a chance at winning the title of America’s Best Cook.

To coincide with the show, FN Dish has launched the Regional Foods Face-Off, a bracket challenge in which you, the fans, can vote for your favorite regional food. The editors have narrowed it down to four famous dishes from each of the regions, but after four rounds of voting, only one dish will come out on top. Round 1 is now closed. Vote in Round 2.

Now it’s up to you, Food Network fans, to vote for the regional dish you think has the most merit.

Here’s how it works:

In Round 1, starting April 3, you get to vote on the 16 dishes to narrow them down to eight.

In Round 2, starting April 17, you’ll get to vote on the remaining eight dishes to narrow them down to four.

In Round 3, starting April 24, you’ll get to vote on the remaining four dishes to narrow them down to two.

And in Round 4, starting May 1, you’ll vote for one of the final two, and the winner will be announced on May 8.

Vote below by selecting one dish from each group.

It's hard to eat healthy w/the choices u gave! But I tried to pick the ones that wouldn't hurt me as much!

why is virginia in the east?

I like the choices you gave! The key is everything in moderation! I grew up in Memphis, we adore BBQ,but we don't eat it everyday.

I hate that Cat Cora gave shrimp as the Southern Regional dish….what was she thinking! Besides there are a number of us out here who cannot even eat shellfish! Now can those folks from Atlanta make a good fried chicken? That would tell us if they represent the south!

It will come down to pizza and salads, salads win

It's a shame that even in food challenges, dishes are essentialized to hot dogs, pizza and burgers. Sure I ate those things but mostly I ate spicy bbq chicken tikka, zaatar crusted naan, fragrant prawn curries and samosas. That was my street food. Where's that America represented in this challenge?

  7. Morgan Labadie says:

The map of the "North" doesn't show the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (which sits on top of Wisconsin). Should be corrected.

I am wondering how Virginia became a state for the East rather than the South?
