Although he was once a competitor on such fierce contests as Rachael vs. Guy: Celebrity Cook-Off and Chopped All-Stars, Joey Fatone is trading in his apron for a host's suit on the all-new series Rewrapped ( premiering Monday, April 21 at 8|7c). FN Dish caught up with the former musical superstar on the set of his upcoming show to chat about his signature dish, go-to late-night bite and favorite people to cook with. Read on below to hear from Joey, then hear from Marc Summers, a judge on Rewrapped.
Joey Fatone: I do. I do enjoy cooking at home. It's hard when you have kids because they like certain things, so sometimes you end up making the same thing over and over and over again. It's like, "Let's try something new, shall we?"
JF: Yeah, it's a simple chicken dish that they like. It's so funny. You can put panko breadcrumbs if you want, but usually it's paprika and grated Parmesan cheese, and you bake it. It's simple; it's great; it's good. You do that with, like, a little bit of a side pasta or something like that or some side of vegetable. We do Brussels sprouts as well. My kids love Brussels sprouts, which is crazy …. You have to burn the heck out of them, though.
JF: Ice cream, mint-chocolate chip ice cream …. Either that or a bowl of popcorn.
Who's your favorite person to cook with and to cook for?
JF: I love to cook with my family around Christmastime … 30 or 40 people. We would cook for them. And we would do it two days in a row. It was so big because we had to do my family one night and I would do my wife's family the next night. It was so hard to do all of us 'cause it's just [an] enormous amount of food to make, so we actually separated it up into two days. But I love to cook with my wife. We do cook together …. We'll tag-team.
JF: Mac and cheese. Definitely Velveeta's mac and cheese is a comfort food. That's one of my favorites. My wife makes this chicken soup that's really good. She purees all the vegetables so the kids don't know that they're eating the vegetables. It's really good …. My dad gave her the recipe.
Tune in to the premiere of Rewrapped on Monday, April 21 at 8|7c.
