What to Watch: The Kitchen's New Cookbook Club and Firehouse Chefs Battle the Heat on Chopped

This weekend on Food Network it's all about comforting dishes and competitions that prove it's possible to overcome obstacles, no matter how big or small. On Saturday morning, watch a new episode of Trisha's Southern Kitchen, where Trisha cooks up Southern comfort foods for her friend Wendy Williams. Then on The Kitchen, the hosts launch their new cookbook club with Jenny McCoy's Desserts for Every Season, a copy of which will be given away on the blog tomorrow. Then in the evening, watch a new episode of On the Rocks, where John Green redoes an Irish pub.

On Sunday morning, tune in for Rachael Ray's 3 in the Bag, where she shows you how to make three dishes out of one bag of groceries. Then on Sandwich King, Jeff is making pizza burgers, an Italian sub and Bombini Doughnuts. In the evening, watch a new episode of Guy's Grocery Games, a special firefighters episode of Chopped and a new episode of Cutthroat Kitchen, where one chef faces cooking in a tiny kitchen.

Today, Trisha is cooking straight up comfort food to welcome her friend Wendy Williams to the South. What better way to introduce her friend to Southern cooking than by having her help out in the kitchen? Trisha will be teaching Wendy how to make her Ribbon Meatloaf, Cream-Style Corn and decadent Banana Pudding. Trisha's even created a special Cherry Ginger Julep just for Wendy.

Viewers' tweets are answered as the chefs prepare a delicious recipe featuring the most-searched ingredients on FoodNetwork.com: chicken, kale and quinoa. Sunny Anderson introduces Jenny McCoy as the first inductee of The Kitchen's Cookbook Club for her cookbook Desserts for Every Season. Jeff Mauro helps Sunny with her Easy Cheesy Beefy Ravioli using pot roast cooked in a slow cooker. Geoffrey Zakarian makes his Perfect Manhattan as they all discuss what they're "Into and Over."

Bar expert John Green visits Mulligans, an Irish pub in Santa Clarita, Calif. In only four days, this pub will undergo extensive staff training, a major revamping of the cocktail and food menu, and a makeover that brings tears to the owner's eyes.

Rachael turns one bag of groceries and a few staples from the pantry into three delicious, nutritious meals! Today's three-pack includes Chickpea and Potato Soup, Indian-inspired Crispy Curry Cutlet Sandwiches on Naan Bread and Spinach Tagliatelle with Buttery Tomato Sauce — proof that sometimes the simpler things in life are the best.

First up is a pepperoni pizza burger, bomba style! Then it's an Italian sub like you've never seen, served with chile oil for dipping. For dessert, Lorenzo and his friends are helping to make Bombini Doughnuts topped with chocolate sauce and sprinkles.

In Guy's first game, four chefs are challenged to make an Italian feast using only canned foods. Then it's Closing Time, so the chefs must race against the shutting lights to get all the fixins for the ultimate hot dog dish. The two chefs in the final game must come up with their best rice dish while incorporating mandatory items from Guy's wild Grocery List.

The firefighter competitors get the meal started with some hearty meat-and-cheese appetizers that would be a hit back at their firehouses, but will the judges enjoy them? Then in the entree round, some big errors with a non-basket-ingredient get one of the judges inordinately upset. And playing with fire is part of the challenge in the final round.

It's a tough dilemma when one chef forces another to choose between cooking with canned chicken or forfeiting half his or her cooking time. Then, two chefs battle the Cutthroat Kitchen ball and chain when they are forced to share knives and tools. And in a climactic culmination, one chef has big problems with a tiny kitchen.
