Go Behind the Scenes of Chopped Canada

by in Shows, January 7th, 2014

Chopped CanadaChopped is taking the competition up north, to Canada. In the new series from Food Network, premiering Thursday, Jan. 9 at 9pm/8c, four chefs will take their chances cooking with mystery basket ingredients in three judged rounds. The competition is basically the same as the classic Chopped with the winning chef earning a cash prize of $10,000, though the panel of judges, the host and the currency differs.

Judges include well-known Canadian chefs Chuck Hughes, Roger Mooking, Susur Lee and Michael Smith, among others. You might also recognize the host, Dean McDermott, as the winner of Season 2 of Rachael vs. Guy: Celebrity Cook-Off. The biggest difference between the original Chopped and Chopped Canada though is probably the set.

Dean is the worst host. Also he has boozer face and tiny little werid eyes, but mostly he is a terrible host.
I am not impressed with the judges either. Chopped is a great format, but you guys need to get better people.

  2. Cassie says:

Dean McDermott is an awful host! I love the show Chopped, but this Canadian version is so disappointing! The judges are dull and seem to have very little knowledge, and the show cannot even come close to the original. I won't waste my time on this one!

  3. Lavgort says:

Does someone know… Are the contestants given any time to plan after the basket is opened and they get started? I always wondered. It seems hard to believe they instantly have a plan.

  4. Pablo says:

Holy boring! Not even close to the original chopped, the host sucks, judges sucks, music sucks, just dry and boring.

  5. Nikki says:

well, I gave them another chance and tried again to stomach Dean McDermott – sorry Food Network but he is the absolute worst. Please…. listen to your viewers and get rid of him. I like the idea of another Chopped but this guy is terrible and, as you can see from the other posts, you need to move on from him or just put the original Chopped on more often. He's disgusting in both his hosting manner and his creepy looks – not a good reflection on you.

  6. Lilly says:

I have no problem with Dean …but chef Roger Mooking …if he is judging I turn the channel…know it all…arguing with the much more talented, experienced and charismatic Chuck Hughes is so annoying…also there are a few sleeping pill judges…the woman who teaches cooking, the Scottish bland dude and the boring Indian dude from b.c.

I agree the judges stink on Chopped Canada and well McDermont is nothing more than a cheating scumbag so as far as I am concerned Chopped Cananda just is no comparison to the original chopped and I do not like watching it. It could work but get a different host and different judges with some clout!

  7. Linda says:

So Food Network, you fire an elegant southern lady for being honest and hire a man who regularly cheats on his wife with no remorse to host another Chopped? Paula Dean was being upfront and honest and Dean McDermott does not have an honest bone is his body. Talk about double standards.

  8. Chad says:

First and last time watching. The host is awful. I've read he is a lying, cheating scumbag.

  9. Terri in FL says:

I hope that Food Network has fired Dean McDermott for his personal conduct while filming Chopped in Toronto. In comparison, his behavior managed to make Paula Deen look like a saint. I think Paula Deen's termination was far too extreme, and totally unnecessary. She will always be an icon in the cooking industry, and the decision to fire her sent a clear message that you will not tolerate any level of bad behavior in any circumstance. It isn't bad enough that Dean M. allegedly had a sexual affair after consuming drugs and alcohol while in Toronto, but now he is airing his dirty laundry along with Tori on the Lifetime Network with a national audience. He is obviously unstable, and should not be allowed to represent the Food Network in any capacity.

Get rid of host, dean McDermott, he ruins the show
