What to Watch: Labor Day Grilling Essentials and Culinary Competition

Bobby Flay

Get ready to fire up the grill one last time and bid summer farewell this Labor Day weekend. Food Network has a great lineup of grilling episodes including Ina's ultimate grilling guide on Barefoot Contessa on Saturday followed by Giada at Home, with Bobby Flay and Giada grilling together. On Sunday, Bobby throws a block party on Bobby Flay's Barbecue Addiction, serving up a late-summer-inspired menu with Long Island flair.

Once you've wrapped up your weekend festivities, tune in for a night of competition on Sunday, starting with The Great Food Truck Race. The remaining teams roll into Idaho, where the potato is king. Then on Cutthroat Kitchen, watch as chefs dish out sabotages for one another — there will be mystery meat, cupcakes and pies. And finally, watch a new episode of Iron Chef America.

Ree's rustling up a frontier fiesta for her family, hard at work building new pens on the ranch. Right off the truck she's serving citrus-grilled Pollo Asado, cheesy Refried Beans, spicy Chile con Queso, cooling Pico de Gallo and a refreshing vat of Perfect Homemade Lemonade.

Giada De Laurentiis invites Bobby Flay over for a day of fun in the kitchen. The two create a colorful meal with Grilled Seafood Pasta fra Diavolo, Chili-Rubbed Pork Chops with Grilled Pineapple and Grilled Peach and Caramel Crostata. Bobby shows Giada how to create one of his favorite cocktails, a Sparkling Apricot Mint Sour.

Bobby Flay says goodbye to summer with a barbecue party celebrating the best ingredients from Long Island, his summer home. He serves up roasted duck BBQ sliders, Heirloom Tomato and Grilled Corn Panzanella with Salmon, grilled filet mignon with lavender-honey vinaigrette and, to drink, a Long Island Iced Tea, of course! It's one tasty way to celebrate summer with a bang — and a flame!

The six remaining teams enter Pocatello, Idaho. For their next Speed Bump, they have to rework their dishes to get rid of all starches on their menus. On day 2, they're given their Truck Stop: They have to dig up the potatoes they need at a nearby farm, and they'll need a lot, as the potatoes must be the main ingredient in all menu items. After making $300, they race to a hill, where the first three teams to arrive win a reward, and the team who sold the least over the weekend is eliminated.

Tune in: Sun., Sept. 1 at 9pm/8c

In this episode, one chef bestows dreaded mystery meat on an opponent in hopes of sabotaging his or her cheese steak. Then one chef makes some real waves when he forces an opponent to make cupcakes in a microwave oven. Finally, we'll see if one chef gets pie in the eye when forced to use pie crust as pizza crust, or they just might deliver.

Tune in: Sun., Sept. 1 at 10pm/9c

Iron Chef Jose Garces faces off against challenger Jamie Bissonnette. Chef Bissonnette, a former Chopped champion, is the chef/owner of the restaurants Coppa and Toro in Boston. Judges are Judy Joo, John T. Edge and Karine Bakhoum.
