What to Watch: Summery Picnics and Backyard Barbecues Plus the Premiere of Food Court Wars

Food Court WarsOn Saturday morning, Ree prepares a summery menu to celebrate the end of the school year. Then Trisha cooks a movie-inspired menu with her sister and friend. On Barefoot Contessa, Ina visits Brooklyn to learn the secrets of making grits and baguettes and samples some cheeses before heading home to cook for Jeffrey. And on Giada at Home, Giada helps plant a garden for an elementary school and prepares a picnic menu for the kids.

Then on Sunday morning, Jamie’s throwing a picnic on the beach. Guy is having his family over for a panini party. Inspired by the Italian grill, Bobby makes a refreshing summer barbecue menu.

Come back later for an evening of competition, first with an episode of Cupcake Wars featuring the Blue Man Group. On Food Network Star, the remaining finalists must practice their pitches and present in front of a panel of executives. Then tune in for the premiere of Food Network’s newest competition show, Food Court Wars, hosted by Tyler Florence.

The Pioneer Woman: “Dinner on the Deck

Ree and her mom friends are celebrating the end of the school year with a girls’ night at the ranch. Ree’s preparing a summery menu of Fresh Herb Pizza, Summer Chicken Salad, Cherry Cheesecake Shooters and Bellini Cocktails.

Trisha’s Southern Kitchen: “Movie Night

Trisha, along with her sister Beth and friend Karri, prepare a feast in homage to their favorite movie, Steel Magnolias. Taking their menu from food found in the film, they make Jalapeno Bites, Low Country Boil and Red Velvet Cake with Gray Cream Cheese Frosting.

Barefoot Contessa: “What’s Cooking in Brooklyn

Ina’s checking out what’s cooking in Brooklyn. She makes a Southern-style breakfast of Carolina Grits with Country Ham and Redeye Gravy at Seersucker Restaurant; at Bien Cuit Bakery she learns the secrets to baking perfect baguettes; then she partakes in a cheese and ham experience at Stinky’s Cheese Shop. Back home Ina makes a salad of Sugar Snap Peas with Pancetta and Parmesan Salad for Jeffrey to go with all the goodies she’s brought back.

Giada at Home: “Planting the Seed

Giada helps plant a garden at an elementary school in Compton, Calif., which will be incorporated into the school’s curriculum. Months later, Giada and Jade check in with the kids to see the progress. They bring along a kid-friendly picnic lunch of Pancetta, Fontina and Zucchini Quiche, Mini Carrot-Apple Cupcakes, and Cavatappi with Roasted Vegetables and Creamy Lemon-Herb Dressing to enjoy with students and staff.

Home for Dinner with Jamie Deen: “Summer Party

Jamie Deen and his family are having a party on the beach, and Jamie has a delicious homemade picnic planned. On the menu are Quick Crispy Chicken Cutlets, Stuffed Summer Squash Boats, Stone Fruit Cobbler and Chopped Grilled Summer Salad, cooked right on the beach.

Guy’s Big Bite: “Panini Party

Guy Fieri is making sandwiches for his friends and family. He has Waldorf Chicken Salad Panini for everyone, and to go with that, Sweet Potato Latkes with sour cream. And to drink, Guy’s mixing up a dangerously refreshing Sweet Tea Cocktail.

Bobby Flay’s Barbecue Addiction: “Farm to Flame Summer Barbecue

Bobby celebrates the bounty of summer in this farm-fresh barbecue. His menu includes Basil Rubbed Halibut with Puttanesca Relish, Maple-Mustard-Mixed Pepper Glazed Salmon with Brussels Sprout Slaw, and Grilled Sausages with Grilled Shallot Relish and Fresh Ricotta. To drink,  it’s Layered Summer Fruit Smoothies.

Cupcake Wars: “Blue Man Group

Former bakers’ assistants will be returning to competition to battle it out for the chance to have their cupcakes featured at a VIP Las Vegas party for the world-renowned Blue Man Group. Phil Stanton, creator of the Blue Man Group, serves as the guest judge.

Food Court Wars: “Suck the Shuck vs. Po’Boy

Retired husband-and-wife team, Mary and Thomas, have been selling their famous Mississippi Delta tamales off a hot plate at a gas station, imagining how successful they could be with a professional setup. Best friends Erika and Stevo have worked in restaurants in the past but they’ve dreamed of opening their own place serving authentic New Orleans-style po’ boys. In Meridian, Miss., these two teams will faceoff in a battle of good ol’ Southern cooking — only one will ultimately win their very own food court restaurant on Food Court Wars.

    Tami Monroe Teaney If the Food Network is going to fire Paula Deen then they also need to fire Anne Burrell, who was sued for sexual discrimination. They would also need to fire Chef Cat Cora, who was arrested for DUI with a blood alcohol level 3 times the legal limit and screamed profanities at people. Dinner Impossible's Robert Irvine was caught lying about his background when he stated he used to cook for the Royal family when, in fact, he did not. Iron Chef Bobby Flay was sued and settled for nearly $1 million because he kept tips from his employees and also cheated on both of his wives. Iron Chef Morimoto was sued for skimming tips from his employees and not paying them properly. Food Network Chef Geoffrey Zakarian filed bankruptcy to avoid a lawsuit – 152 of his disgruntled employees sued him. Chef Juan Carlos Cruz hired a homeless man to kill his wife. Chef Ina Rosengarten, The Barefoot Contessa, refused to meet with a child who was dying of cancer. Chef Guy Fieri has been accused of sexually harassing women and has asked his producers to warn him in advance if he has to tape his show, Diners Drive-ins and Dives, with restaurant owners who are gay. Jeff Frugal Gourmet Smith sexually abused men.
