Chopped Mystery Basket Weirdest Ingredient Bracket Tournament — Vote in Round 2

by in Shows, April 17th, 2013

Chopped Mystery Basket Weirdest Ingredient Bracket Tournament Round 2Some of the mystery basket ingredients that get used on Chopped are pretty unusual, to say the least. But the culinary producers who come up with them don’t just draw them out of a hat — though sometimes it does seem that way! They take their time to decide on the ingredients, making sure the basket components are just right and actually manageable. FN Dish queried the culinary producers to find out the top 16 weirdest basket ingredients they’ve had on the show. The list of ingredients ranged from goat brains to gummy eggs over easy — almost no ingredient is off-limits.

Now it’s up to you, Chopped fans, to vote on the ingredient you think is the weirdest of them all in this four-round bracket tournament, which coincides with the new season of Chopped All-Stars.

Here’s how it works:

In Round 1, from April 10 to April 17, you voted on the 16 ingredients and narrowed them down to eight.

In Round 2, starting today, you’ll get to vote on the remaining eight ingredients to narrow them down to four.

In Round 3, starting Wednesday, April 24, you’ll get to vote on the remaining four ingredients to narrow them down to two.

And in Round 4, starting Wednesday, May 1, you’ll narrow down the final two, and the winner will be announced on Wednesday, May 8.

Vote below by selecting one ingredient from each group.

The polls have closed in the Chopped Mystery Basket Bracket. Find out the winner here.

I like to see the strange things that go into the baskets it's cool to see what they have to us and they use them.

  6. Jean says:

I think this is a boring and painful show to watch. How cruel. It wasn't even fun to watch. I won't watch it again with this format. Soooo disappointed in chopped!

  7. Marie says:

I was watching an episode of "Chopped" where the ingredients that the Chefs were given was absolutely ridiculous. The judges were Geoffrey Zakarian, Steve Conant and Amanda Frietag. Judges Zakarian and Conant were most unreasonable to the Chefs.

The dessert basket included Kale and Bone Marrow. How can anyone make a tasty dessert with those ingredients. Zakarian did not want Brunch he said because the Chef was frying the Kale. Conant who is always a pain in the neck, complained it was the worst thing he ever ate. Is he kidding? How could they make a "sweet treat" out of that garbage.

The people who twitter this stuff in, are just as ridiculous. Put a limit on things that are just plain impossible to eat. The Chefs are not miracle workers, they are cooks.

Chopped has went from entertaining to just plain stupid.

I hope you are reading these comments Food Network!!! The viewers are getting tired of wasting valuable time. Remember, we are doing you the favor. Not the other way around.

I really think the viewer's choice episodes are a LOSE, LOSE, LOSE situation. The cooks hate to cook, the judges hate to eat and the viewers hate to waste their time watching a doomed situation.

Please stop these FN and put us out of our misery!

  9. Judith says:

I remember a basket ingredient but don't remember the name of it that had poisonous seeds inside of it….Sorry but I would never use that ingredient and do not know anyone who would.

  10. Catie says:

For real, man? Cheek meat is some of the most tender and flavorful out there. Barbacoa is taken from the cheek and its incredible. There's no weird cartilage or tendons; its a relatively 'normal' cut of meat. You're ignorant, lol.
