Alex Guarnaschelli's Old-School Comfort Food

Whether Alex Guarnaschelli is cooking at restaurants Butter or The Darby, dishing out top-notch critiques as a judge on Chopped, racing around Kitchen Stadium as the newest Iron Chef or cooking up a storm with her daughter at home, fans of hers know that Alex does comfort food best.

Alex grew up in a home surrounded by a love of cooking, where souffles and cheeseburgers were equally revered. The daughter of a respected cookbook editor and a Chinese cooking enthusiast, Alex developed a passion for food at a young age, sealing her professional fate. In her premiere cookbook, Old-School Comfort Foodshe shares her journey from waist-high taste tester to trained chef, along with the 100 recipes for how she learned to cook — and the way she still loves to eat.

My absolute favorite recipe of Alex's would be the porterhouse steak with the oozing maitre'd butter!!! I can't even begin to describe how utterly fantastic this steak and butter are and how perfectly the two complement each other. I have been a huge fan of Alex's since The Cooking Loft. She has a deep and abiding love of food and her ingredients.

My favorite recipe is the brown sugar and molasses carrots. I really love making this dish. I made this dish for Easter, and everybody love them! I was always afraid of molasses being too sweet, however, it was VERY balanced, and it had a nice deep flavor, which i love. This Easter was hard because I had lost a very close loved one. He would have adored the carrots, and he loved everything that I cooked. I have wanted to become a chef since I was only a little kid, and watching Alex cook just makes me appreciate food even more. She has a love for the food she makes, and I do too!

I have loved Alex since first seeing her on Chopped! I was so happy when she became an Iron Chef! My favorite recipe of hers is her Macaroni and Cheese! I do not do well with making a roux so other Mac and cheese recipes have been disasterous for me. But this one is easy and has amazing flavor! I have made as a side dish and also as just my main meal fo rthose nights when it is cold and im worn out! I have added ham and also my most decadent addition has been lobster!! So yummy!! Thank you Alex for sharing this recipe it is a favorite in my house!
