There’s Still Time to Whip Up a Big-Game Party by Gaby Dalkin in Events, Holidays, February 2nd, 2013

OK, I have a confession: I don’t understand football. Never have. Never will. It’s just the way I was made. I do, however, love throwing Super Bowl parties. You wouldn’t actually find me watching the game, but I love to have all my friends over and cook a big feast and let everyone else enjoy the game while indulging on great food.
The key to a great big-game soiree is to have lots of finger foods — things that are easy to eat while you’re on the couch watching TV and screaming for your favorite team. You also need recipes that are simple to make so you don’t spend the whole day in your kitchen.
The big game may be tomorrow, but there’s still time to organize a feast. Here are a few of my favorite recipes that always make an appearance at my party:
Alton’s guacamole. I once heard a fact that some obscene amount of guacamole is consumed every year during the Super Bowl — something like two football fields’ worth. But since guacamole is awesome, I can believe it.
And because there’s no such thing as avocado overload, there must be at least two kinds of guac at all parties. That’s where Bobby’s recipe makes an appearance.
I also love making Ree’s pulled pork and throwing out some slider buns and letting everyone assemble their own sliders. This is great because you can prepare it the day before and just let it hang out in a slow cooker until it’s ready.
Have you’ve tried or made pizza dip before? I’ve been told it’s the best thing that’s ever graced my table. It’s super-cheesy and this one from Food Network Kitchens is packed with flavor.
Quesadillas are easy to eat and even easier to make. Plus, Sunny makes a great cilantro lime sauce that’s to die for.
And last but not least, Parmesan Sour Cream Dip from the Neelys. This one is a must in our house. My husband is obsessed with sour cream dip and this one is a winner.
