Asking the Tough Questions: Worst Cooks Recruits Take Culinary Quiz by Maria Russo in Shows, February 5th, 2013
A brand-new season of Worst Cooks in America premieres in a few weeks — on Sunday, February 17 at 9pm/8c — and you may be wondering just how disastrous this year’s crop of culinary recruits really is in the kitchen. Do they know how to deglaze a pan, or are they such beginners that they’ve never seen a skillet? Are they familiar with basic kitchen utensils like the mandolin? What’s their understanding of spices?
We were asking ourselves these questions and others, and decided to put the recruits’ kitchen knowledge to the test. Watch the video below to find out how the contestants fared in our exclusive culinary quiz and see them answer — often with hilariously shocking responses —some of the most seemingly basic cooking questions. Click the play button to hear what they had to say, then tell us in the comments: Are you rooting for Team Anne or Team Bobby this season?
Tune in to the season premiere of Worst Cooks in America on Sunday, February 17 at 9pm/8c.

Yes, you CAN put metal in a microwave! There are microwaves that come with their own metal rack, just like in a conventional overn. What you should NOT do is let separate pieces of aluminum or other metal touch each other. This will create an arc which can cause sparks and possibly a fire.
The purpose of using aluminum foil is to block the microwaves in order to keep a particular part of the food from overcooking while the rest is heating.
Go ahead and look at the book that came with your microwave…or Google it.
Wow, I can see why rhey are called the WORST cooks in America…..

I'm having a very hard time believing this cast of characters didn't have a clue about anything asked. One day of watching Food Network and all those questions could be answered.Seriously where do I sign up for next year.
I'm with you there. I was trying to find the site to sign up next yr also. At least we may be seeing each other then otherwise, cook well and enjoy the show.
The contestants don't sign up; their friends and families "turn them in" for their culinary violations.
Team Bobby all the way. Ann is too harsh as the seasons pass. She forgets these people cannot cook. As hard as it is to believe some people really are disastrous in the kitchen. My sister almost set my house on fire boiling eggs. Maybe I should nominate her lol…
I find it hard to believe that these people are so stupid. The questions were simple questions. I have been cooking for years and watching Food Net Work for a long time know the answers to all of thee questions.
Hell. I don't even know the dang answers. Mandolin is a musical instrument. I looked it up on google-it is a slicer-I have used the item before I just never knew what it was called. I know how to cook, I just ain't technical. I would have flunked that quiz all together.
I do have common sense though-not leaving products out, washing your hands, changing the cutting board when working with raw meat. But I ain't never heard of any of these vocab words.
The musical instrument is a mandolin; the kitchen tool is a mandoline, and if people would pronounce it correctly—man-doh-LEEN—the distinction would be more obvious.
ty. Actually I never even heard of a mandoline, just the instrument. I think they purposely put out vocab that only top chefs would know. I looked up mirin. I would never have known that since I do not cook or eat oriental foods.
I really want to sign up for next season please
Are they that stupid? Or are they acting!!!
I really think i cold be good at this competition i mean i would really wip up something bad just to get in i just want to show that i am a good cook i mean i am certainly better than these people this season. I do know what a mandolin is in cooking without searching it up i just really wish that we could sign up and just cook!!! I really want to show them what i got…
