Welcome to The Next Iron Chef: Redemption Kitchen Set
by Maria Russo in Shows, November 9th, 2012
More like a culinary amphitheater than an everyday cook space, the Next Iron Chef Kitchen Stadium is, of course, not just a kitchen. Featuring multiple stovetops, a slew of ovens, an ice cream maker and more, the set can accommodate several chefs at a time and is stocked with oddball and classic ingredients alike that allow the rivals to cook up Iron Chef-worthy dishes.
You’ve seen Next Iron Chef finalists sprint from stove to pantry to freezer in a flash and grab exactly what they need, but have you ever wondered what’s on and in those wall-to-wall shelves, deep refrigerators and freezers? We were curious about what it takes to outfit the Next Iron Chef kitchen, so we checked in with Food Network’s culinary team, the group responsible for stocking it with its tricked-out appliances, top-notch cooking gadgets and Secret Ingredients. Read on below to get a behind-the-scenes look at Kitchen Stadium and find out how the culinary department prepared for the fifth season of The Next Iron Chef.

I'd love to know how many spice grinders are available. I remember in season two, Mehta was holding on to what apparently was the only one available, which is strange considering that they only cost around $20. Then again, it was an Indian food challenge in which any chef knows one MUST grind one's own spices, so perhaps those sneaky producers helped create a little chaos?
Only one ice cream maker?? I'm looking forward to some really weird flavors this season (perhaps eel or stinky tofu?)
Doesn't each team has its own ice cream maker? How many varieties of ice cream would you like to see them make in each challenge?
Why isn't the kitchen better equipped for multiple chefs? No one should be handicapped because a piece of equipment essential to the success of his/her dish is being used by another chef. You see the same thing happen over and over on "Chopped" also.
Because then it wouldn't be stupid.
You see "stupid" adds drama which is entertaining – cooking stuff on TV without drama is boring.
To be an iron chef you have to work with what is available. That's the name of the game so-to-speak.
Would you consider it fair to have one oven, 3 whisks, and two saute pans? The challenge should be in using the secret ingredient – not who can get to the equipment first.
Eighteen wisks plus 194 pots and pans: I believe they should be able to deal with that!
Yes, but only one ice cream machine? And remember last season when Chef Guarnaschelli had to wait to use the KitchenAid mixer? And how many times on "Chopped" do we see one chef monopolze the mandolin to the detriment of other chefs? I personally carry a lot of extra items in my knife kit, but I just can't make the ice cream machine fit no matter how hard I try!
FN is my favorite channel BUT Redemption was the biggest waste of time if I was a sponser on the show I would have pulled my ads. I couldn't watch the show I tried several times, gave up.
I have never seen them run out of anything except an ice cream machine. Why only one???
a true contest would allow all to battle with the same equiptment and time and , of course secret ingredent.
A true contest would not allow two contestants to work together without both losing….not the way we expect for Cooking Network..very disappointed that contestants would just do this…
