No St. Patrick’s Day party is complete without beer, especially Guinness, a dark Irish stout beer. Sure, you could just enjoy it straight from the can or bottle, but you could also cook with beer, incorporating it into sweet and savory dishes, such as ice cream sundaes, chocolate cupcakes, burgers and more. Below are five stout-centric recipes that are bursting with bold, full flavors, but are still easy enough to make for tomorrow’s Irish-themed festivities.
Reduce sweetened Guinness beer on the stove until it’s thick and syrupy, and drizzle it atop classic vanilla ice cream to create Food Network Magazine’s easy Guinness Sundaes (pictured above).
Cooking Channel’s Braised Mole Chicken Sliders (pictured) boast tender shredded chicken thighs tossed in a traditional Mexican mole sauce, featuring garlic, spicy chiles, toasted peanuts, warm chocolate and several cups of stout beer. Each slider is finished with crumbled cool queso fresco and creamy avocado slices.
In just one hour, you can prepare Michael Chiarello’s hearty and comforting Guinness Onion Soup With Irish Cheddar Crouton recipe, featuring an ideal mix of sweet onions, fresh thyme, acidic sherry vinegar and dark beer. Ladle the soup into individual ovenproof bowls, top with toasted ciabatta and a slice of cheddar then broil until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
