How to Make a Chocolate Bowl

Chocolate lovers won’t just lick these bowls clean — they’ll eat them whole. To make some yourself, temper one pound semisweet chocolate. Dip the top of a partially inflated balloon in the chocolate, flip the balloon back up and twirl it to distribute the chocolate. Hold the balloon upright and let dry for about a minute. Repeat the dipping process two more times, then spoon some melted chocolate onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and center the balloon, bowl-side down, on the melted chocolate base. Repeat with more balloons, reheating the chocolate as needed (1 pound chocolate will make 4 to 6 small bowls). Refrigerate until hard, about 1 hour, then pop the balloons and peel them away. Store the bowls in a cool, dry place for up to three days.

  2. Oh, dear Lord no……tried this several years ago. Make sure chocolate is cool before sticking balloon in it…traumatized my children when it blew up. Chocolate EVERYWHERE…….. they are still seeing a therapist over it LOL

    Awesome Idea- looks delicious. Just be cautious of serving the chocolate bowl to anyone who may have a latex allergy. Balloons are latex and have a residue on the outside of them.

    hmmm. Could you use a latex glove and make a chocolate hand? or some other latex wrapped appendage? the mind reels..

    I made 14 of these for Christmas Eve dessert buffet…but it took over 20 balloons to do so! First, the chocolate was too warm (even though it had cooled for 10 minutes) and the balloons exploding sending chocolate EVERYWHERE!!! Then, once the chocolate was cooled enough to dip the balloons…after they had hardened and I popped the balloons, they were so stuck to the inside of the chocolate bowl that they caved the bowl in. But I did not give up (even trying to spray the balloons with Pam to prevent sticking, but that didn't work…). In the end it was worth it…the guests loved them!

    Seems like the bowl would break when trying to eat the ice cream…end result ice cream on the table or floor?
