We go to a huge family reunion for my husband's family. His mother and her family all get together. We normally have over 90 people for the noon meal. It is held in a big community building with plenty of parking, and a large kitchen. Family comes from all over. This year I am bringing the mashed potatoes (20 lbs), broccoli casserole- I lg container. I also try a new dessert. It will be a busy week, but lots of fun. No restaurant for us, but so happy there are restaurants that offer a meal on Thanksgiving.
Due to very hard times, for my three children and I, are currently living in a Motel Room, so consequently we are going to try to be very creative and actually make our Thanksgiving dinner in our Room. I will be actually roasting my turkey, in a roaster, and all the rest in a convection/toaster oven, Microwave, Electric sillet. But the most important thing is that the 4 of us are together, and are very much thankful we have a roof over our heads, even tho its a Motel room. This and along with our health, etc, we will be very thankful for this year. God Bless and have a wonderful day to all Foodnetwork staff and their family's'
Though I don't have anything against people who do it in restaurants, I will always do it at home. To me Thanksgiving is as much about spending time with your loved ones as it is about the turkey. Can't wait and I have a lot of work to do.
I live in a small town of 9,000 in the Rocky Mtns. of Wyoming and usually eat Thanksgiving dinner at home but chose to eat out once and it was also terrific! We saw so many people we knew; it was like sharing dinner with a couple hundred friends. Our children (home from college) also saw old classmates and parents of old pals that they otherwise would not have had the chance to see. Yes, the house didn't have that Thanksgiving smell but seeing quite a variety of friends made up for it.
In 2010 we were in Nassau Bahamas for Thanksgiving week. We went to a local moderately priced restraunt with a special American Thanksgiving special. WORST EVER !!!! But they did have Conch salad….. otherwise, we should have got some SWANSON
