Burger Bites

Food Network fans are always eager to sample creations from their favorite chef. But in the past, dining at a celebrity chef’s restaurant wasn’t always possible for a fan on a budget. Recently,  some of our favorite chefs have come up with less pricey offerings from their very own burger restaurants. Bobby Flay fans can now experience his love of the grill at Bobby’s Burger Palace with five locations in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and soon in Washington DC. Michael Symon’s Fat Doug Burger was voted the #1 Burger in America at the South Beach Food and Wine Festival last year. You can sample it (along with his other specialties) at B Spot Burgers in Woodmere, Ohio and two more soon-to-open locations in the Cleveland area.  And at the Bethlehem Sands Casino Resort in Pennsylvania, you will find Burgers and More by Emeril (BAM – get it?) where you can order a variety of standard menu offerings or create your own burger from a wide variety of toppings and sauces. We can only hope that these tasty offerings will continue to expand to our own hometowns! Until then, tide yourself over one of these signature burgers from Food Network chefs.

Iron Chefs battle for 2011 James Beard Outstanding Chef

Iron Chef Symon has once again made the prestigious James Beard award nominee list. He's nominated in 2 categories: Outstanding Chef and Outstanding Restaurant for his restaurant Lola in Cleveland Ohio.  In 2009, he won the award as Best Chef for the Great Lakes Area. He will compete with fellow Iron Chef Jose Garces for the Outstanding Chef title.  Both chefs are no stranger to competition, having participated in the Next Iron Chef contest to earn their spot in Kitchen Stadium. You can see the full list of nominees on the James Beard Web site. Finalists will be chosen on March 21, and the winners will be announced May 9 at the awards reception in New York City.

Tyler Florence & Sammy Hagar Partner

Set to open in Mill Valley California in mid-March, El Paseo is the collaboration of Florence and Hagar featuring fine dining that is being described as “old American” and using a fresh, local seasonal menu and will include an adjacent bakery.

Chef Florence has made his home in Mill Valley and has made many culinary contributions to the area since his arrival including a storefront under his own name, Rotisserie and Wine in the Napa Riverfront Area, and Wayfare Tavern in San Francisco.

Sammy Hagar is the Founder of Cabo Wabo restaurant which originated in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and later expanded to a chain in the United States. In the late 1990’s Hagar commissioned a house brand of tequila bottled under the Cabo Wabo name which has become the second best selling premium tequila in the United States.
