Worst Cooks Exit Interview: Erika Rumsey

This challenge was not Erika's finest moment: She served crackers decorated with squeeze cheese.

Why did you need or want to be on Worst Cooks in America?
I have always loved the idea of cooking, but could never really figure it out. I live on processed foods. Some of my favorites include hot dogs and macaroni and cheese! I once microwaved a cookie to get it warm. I realized that two minutes was way too long when the microwave caught on fire.

What was the most valuable tip or piece of advice that you received from Chef Anne?
Be organized! Mice en place (or whatever that was).

What did you take away from the experience?
I overcame my fear of the kitchen. I’m not afraid to at least TRY and cook.

Will you continue to work on your culinary skills?
Now that I have learned some helpful tips, I can’t wait to continue cooking at home!

If you could have a do-over of the challenge that sent you home, what would you do differently?
I wish I would have been more relaxed. My nerves got the best of me.

When you presented your final dish, how did you feel about it?
I felt so proud. I knew Chef would probably hate it but I couldn’t believe I actually made that!

What advice would you give to future Worst Cooks competitors?
Pay attention, be relaxed, and FOCUS!

What was the first dish or meal that you attempted to cook back at home after being eliminated? How did it go?
I bought a mandolin and attempted to make the potato cake. The potatoes were way too thick and it took forever. It was not good at all, but I did use a non-stick pan!

What was your most memorable or funniest moment while shooting the show?
Starting a fire on the first day and almost crying when I had to tear apart a chicken.

    Why on earth did you leave you're hair down? I can't believe it didn't start on fire! It was very unprofessiona,l even for someone who cannot cook well. Actually, it made u look like a dumb blond. Your cooking was a learning process….but hair down,your hands constantly playing with it (nerves, undoubtedly), was actually nauseating to me. But you obviously learned some great skills, so look professional and you'll feel professional.

      Soozin, essentially labeling her a "dumb blond" does nothing for her self esteem so knock it off. She was on the show to learn how to cook, not be a professional. Her nerves are what got the best of her which is why she kept messing with her hair. She needs to learn to harness her nervousness and take control of the kitchen more at home…

        Perhaps it's not even the contestants choices? You know, maybe the producers of the show have the make-up artists touch up and get them ready to be seen on TV.

        I can see your point though, what would have happened if someone's hair eventually fall on the plate. You can bet the cameras will be all over that.

        I think they should make it mandatory to have them up instead of wear their hairs down. That's just a thought.

          Erika seems very nice, but I agree why would she have her hair down? And why does she wear soooooo much eye make up? She said she had a boyfriend but its a little weird if you ask me…

    Erika you made so much progress and I think your potential is very good. Don't lose what you've learned, you have an honest and lovely quality about you. Keep us posted on your progress. Be proud of yourself and never stop learning.
