Talent, Talent EVERYWHERE! by Operation Foodie in View All Posts, March 11th, 2009
Update here from a really great talent test I managed in the kitchen last Thursday and Friday. First of all I have to admit that my favorite place to shoot is in the kitchen. I think you get so much more out of the chefs as far as personality and the producers/directors get a real look into their ability to work in an uncontrolled environment.
When I asked Rob (Bleifer) if the kitchen was available for us to shoot in his response was “yes, as long as my team can go on doing their work”. Of course they could and they did! In the background we heard the bam-bam-bam of tenderizing chicken breast, food processors mixing on high, pans deglazing with a loud sizzle – it was amazing and I’m pretty sure everyone agreed (even Curt, our Audio Engineer).
Here are a few images I managed to snap.
1. Karen Berrios, Producer and Casting Director — main photo.
2. Eggs!!! I told you we scrambled a ton of these.

3. Camera view. See! This isn’t intimidating in the least!

As for our Studio A, the fabulous Ms Sunny Anderson is back.
Cheers and till next time!

What great inside information on talent testing! The process for signing new talent seems to be both grueling and intimidating for the potential FN hosts! Although, as a viewer I have to say I appreciate that. Until I read your last two posts I never realized how many people are involved in selecting new talent. Don’t get me wrong I love scrambled eggs but why were scrambled eggs selected and not something more complex? On a side note: Yay for Sunny being back in Studio A!!
Don’t get me wrong, we don’t always do scrambled eggs – especially when we bring in the Anne Burrells. But because there are so many ways to do an egg, it can be pretty interesting to see what people come up with.
Thanks Kendra, your posts are always so fantastic! Thanks so much for explaining the scrambled eggs (they are one of my morning favorites). You’re right eggs are such a blank canvas and an “egg-cellent” way to test a potential talent’s skill! I can’t help but wonder will we see any of them on FN anytime soon!!
Kendra, as always, a very interesting piece into the background puzzle of the FN studios. Are the tapes of these talent tests archived? Seems to me an interesting segment could be put together highlighting the talent test process. And I know we all love a good blooper reel!
Thx again.
thumbs upward if you tried temporarily halting it to see if she was really nude :P
