Which Food Have You Worked For?

So Adam Gertler returned to Food Network this week with a new show entitled, Will Work For Food [Mondays at 8:30pm/7:30c]. Adam is exposed to a pretty wild world of food jobs which made us wonder… Which Food (job) Have You Worked For?

Here’s a quick round-up from The FN Dish staffers:

* Ice cream bicycle boy — bike with mini-freezer on the front
* Pea picker — endless hours in the sun for pennies per pod
* Amusement Park ‘Fried Dough” Fryer
* Candy Girl at the first multiplex theater in Long Island
* Hostess for uppity tourist trap in East Hampton
* Bacon cook in Vermont — ah, grease in the hair
* DC Nightlife Critic — countless brewery tours (& tastes)
* Dude Ranch Cook — quit over Alan Jackson brouhaha

We want to hear yours… Spill it!!

I was Chuck E. Cheese at 16. Great job–wore my walkman, t-shirt and shorts, didn’t have to talk, and could hide in the dressing room when the rugrats were unruly! Not to mention all the free pizza and video games (a brand new thing at the time) I could want.

I picked raspberries several summers in a row (ok except when it’s raining and they have to come off really fast), and worked a very short-lived job at a fast-food fish place.

LOVED Will Work for Food! I started working in our family swimming pool business at 8 and spent 10 years making very little money. Instead my grandfather paid me in roadside snacks and farm stand delights. I have to say they were the best years of my life!

Which food job have I worked for? Does cooking for my family count? No? (that’s right, I don’t get paid). Hmmm,

Well, I did manage two restaurants in California for a few years. And yeah, I got paid. (if you can call that “pay”, lol). Guess that counts.

But I’ll tell ya, workin’ for family is way more fun. :-)
